5 out of 5 stars Greatest comic based game ever   July 14, 2008

the punisher is my favourite marvel hero but unless your a HUGE fan of the comics or movies then you probably wont get to admire this games potential.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   March 22, 2007

I bought the Punisher after I had finished almost every other super hero game, as the Punisher is a Marvel character. And I can truly say I was not disappointed. This game is excellent on every level, with great weapons and mixing blasting countless criminals with a sneaky jungle stealth mission and hilarious Special Kills and Interrogation Zones. My favourite level was Central Zoo, the Interrogations, which were centered around animals mostly, were great and really funny. On the game there are also several cameos, for example Daredevil, the Kingpin and Iron Man. The boss fights are varied and exciting and the gameplay is intense and satisfying. The graphics are great and the objectives are clear. This is destined to become one of my favourites alongside the Godfather, King Kong and Spider-Man 2. A true pleasure to play, and the gore is not intense at all.

5 out of 5 stars Letting off steam   September 9, 2006

The first thing you notice about the Punisher on PS2 is how much it reminds you of the groundbreaking Max Payne of a few years back. The second is the new levels of brutality that gaming has gone to,in order to keep 'the kids' entertained.
But these are minor quibbles!
The Punisher is awesome, quite literally 100 times better than that AWFUL movie(10/10 for effort though)as you shoot, stab and kill your way through multiple levels of gameplay, with many recurring Marvel/Punisher supporting characters making cameo appearances.(I won't spoil them here though)
The real joy is just how amazingly unrestrained this game is in its depiction of the Punisher himself, brilliantly voiced in a deeper monotone,by the movies Thomas Jane, and in the violence he inflicts onthe thousands of scum who come crawling out the woodwork to meet their end at the Punishers hands. There is,I'm ashamed to admit,an almost perverse joy in a bad day at work, knowing you can come home and let off some steam, dishing out vitual vengeangce against CG scum.Or is that just me....
The game itself is a little simplistic for my taste, but really, thats what the Punisher is all about.Revenge and punishment by the simplest route possible.I even prefer this game to Garth Ennis' comic book,on which it is more closely based than the actual movie it ties in with.So if you've ever wanted to give a man a pavement sandwich, tape a grenade to a guys mouth, slam his head repeatedly in a fridge,or just plain feed him to the sharks, then this is the game for you!!!

4 out of 5 stars Bloody brilliant!!!   March 9, 2006

Yeah, the film's OK....but the game's superb!

If you're after cute little characters and fluffy storylines then this ISN'T the game for you....but if brutal torture of criminals is your thing, as well as packing more firepower than you can shake a bloodstained stick at then you need to buy this!!!

Good sound, graphics and gameplay, along with some very imaginative uses for drills, piranha tanks and a zoo rhino!!!

The only downside is that, once you've gained information from a criminal, if you continue your torture to the point of killing him you LOSE points. I think this kind of goes against the title and premise of the game somehow.

Also once you've "persuaded" a baddie to talk by threatening to feed him feetfirst into a wood-chipping machine, if you then actually DO turn him into soil-enriching mulch the screen goes to black and white....despite being able to blow limbs and heads off in glorious (should that be gory-ous) technicolour in the normal course of the game!!!

5 out of 5 stars The best movie tie-in game   December 21, 2005

Dark, violent, sadistic, cruel (though deserving in most cases), ambitious and addictive. I think this is one of the best games going and is certainly the best movie tie-in you can buy.

The graphics are excellent, the gameplay is superb, the other comic heroes and villains that appear give the game a distinct comic feel, yet it still stays close to the film. this really is one of the best games going for people who like their gaming P>Superb film as well as a superb game.
