Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Making a game based on Jaws seems impossible until you realise you don't play Chief Brody or any of the humans in this game - you play the shark as you chomp your way through the Amity Island tourist population!

The lowdown:
As unlikely as it may sound at first this game takes considerable influence from the Grand Theft Auto series as you tour the ocean depths and seaside beaches, ensuring your place at the top of the food chain. Set thirty years after the original film, despite the fact that you spend the entire game snacking on swimmers and smaller denizens of the deep you're essentially a sort of fishy anti-hero as you set out to destroy the evil Environplus refinery on the island. As fun as this all sounds, and it is fun for the first few hours, the game is handicapped by some very clumsy controls and a perversely unhelpful camera. The idea that Jaws has the wherewithal to be using diver's passcards to open underwater doors also seems to stretch credibility rather too far.

Most exciting moment:
As well as following the storyline there's also a free roam mode where you can explore the ocean world and eat its contents. Apart from battling with giant squid and killer whales there's also a number of scenes from the movie to recreate, including the famous opening sequence with the buoy and the girl.

Since you ask:
Developers Appaloosa Interactive are the same team behind Ecco the Dolphin for the Dreamcast and PS2. The non-violent game worked in a similar manner and featured several great whites as enemies to be avoided.

The bottom line:
It's no classic but this isn't quite as bad as Jaws 4: The Revenge.

What a great game to play when you want to go a bit mad! I love 'Jaws' and had to buy this game. I wasn't dissapointed either. The camera panning, as others have mentioned, is the main criticism but otherwise munching, crunching and bombing your way around is great fun. The challenges can be quite tricky and frustrating but with perseverance, you feel great having done it! The mini-challenges scattered throughout the sea are good fun. Some of Jaws' moves are great! Grabbing a helicopter or making a boat explode are just two examples of what a shark can surprisingly do ;op A great rainy day game, satisfying and quite 'naughty' due to it's violence towards innocent bathers.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   February 15, 2008

this game is so good,at first I was not that sure whether to get it or not to get it as some of the reviews said it was rubbish. But I went and got it and was amazed at how good it was.

some of the missions are quite hard but if you cant do them you can always just rome around and kill people.

overall this game is amazing and I would definatly recomend it to other people

3 out of 5 stars JAWS Unleashed - The Honest Review   February 5, 2008

Hi everyone my review of Jaws Unleashed for you all, Sharks amazing animals. anyway lets get down to business i waited for ages for this with such high hopes that it would be a great game based on one of my favirate films n heres what i think.

STORY:
Jaws Unleashed see's Amity Island being terrorised by yep you guessed it JAWS a new company has been doing research to try and change the behavior of sharks (Deep Blue Sea anyone?) and during the 4th of July celebration Jaws has come to visit and ultimatly get rid of these new devices
(yeah cause hed sooo do that). Brodys son (the dude from the films) is trying to capture/kill Jaws and save the island from the swimming death machine.

GAMEPLAY:
Jaws Unleashed uses a similar engine to that of Ecco the dolphin but it is'nt as successful which is a big let down really :(, the camera and controls are frustrating and hard to get use to. How the hell i ever got to the unbeleivebly hard end level is beyond me. The missions are pathetic i mean yeah a shark really would just decide to infiltrate a big refinery and bomb it and be able to use an ID card, and how come Jaws in the film is soooo powerful yet here he is killed with a bread knife but now onto the good points yes good points im suprised too lol the free roaming is where this game really pays off you can explore a very large ocean map filled with different kinds of sea creatures (to eat yumm) and of course you can go to the beach and terrorise the public, like GTA you will be hunted by the coast gaurds but a little biting should stop their boats :p.

GRPAHICS:
The graphics are very tipsy turny really lets start with the good

Jaws - the shark looks incredibly detailed skin tone teeth even the eye movement when chewing food.

The Ocean - The under sea world looks very impressive with living sea life and foilage moving with the current blood effects look pretty cool too.

Sea Creatures - All look very detaled and move realisticly.

The Bad

People - The characters and human swimmers look awful even in cutscenes they done have individual fingers and they dont seem to be able to move their lips but unfortunatly can still speak bad dialouge <:( lol

OVERALL:
Jaws Unleashed is a big let down even for someone like me n i really like sharks i think they are incredible but not even that can save this terrible un inspired game, i liked the free roaming aspect of this game and nothing else its dull boring and a complete waste of an oppertunity to make a good movie tie in. If you for some reason want to play this game then DEFFINITLY rent it , or wait till its really really cheap this game is awful

Thanks for reading hope this was helpful

3 out of 5 stars Fun while it lasted, but a short lasting game...   January 2, 2008
Jonah Duncan
When I found out about Jaws Unleashed, it sounded great fun, being a Great White Shark, eating people limb by limb and battling killer whales and squids, with blood everywhere and people screaming for their lives. And it was great fun- at least for about 5 days.
This 'shark version of Grand Theft Auto' was a short lived game for me, as I got bored of free roaming and doing pointless missions. There are lots of missions that give you no useful help on what you're supposed to do, and so you're wondering around for about an hour, trying everything possible, failing and failing, over and over again, untill you just give up. Take, for example, the mission where you have to blow up the refinery using the un-exploded barrels that are being thrown at you. If you haven't seen the movie, you'll have no idea that is what you're supposed to do, as no hint is given, telling you how to destroy the refinery.
And, as I've said, free roaming gets very boring, as there's rarely anything different, just attacking people on boats and eating fish, and maybe the odd side mission, which are just small challenges which are sometimes- rarely- fun.
However, there are some good points. First of all, most of the bad points are good for a while, until they get boring, and you have the ability to go into different areas of the sea, where you will find different creatures, and maybe some different types of boats (which again you'll get tired of soon). You can go onto land- for only 10 seconds- which is unrealistic but fun, as you get to drag people into the water.
I would recommend only renting this game, as you really will get tired of it after a while.
