Action and Fun March 19, 2007 Thor (Norway) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Overall, the action and fighting sequences are amazing, especially in the Jedi temple. One of the bad things about the game is that has very few levels (only 17) and it's easy. You also don't get to experience all the fights that appeared in the films such Mace Windu versus Lord Sidius, and Sidius versus Yoda. Some two player games are too short and not all the parts can be played with two players. For example, Obi Won and Anakin when they fight against General Grevious' bodyguards or Yoda and Obi Won versus the Clones and you can't even choose which character you want to play. I hate that you can't play as a Clone especially when you fight in the Jedi temple. You cannot choose your characters in two player mode and you can't play as people who have guns. Except for one part, almost all of the characters who perish, die only by getting stabbed, unlike in the film. I don't recommend the game if you only like two player games. However, if you enjoy one player games then you might like this one. A positive if that you can unlock the Jedi (Sith) you have defeated in light sabre duels. The tricks in the game are really cool and you can choose your difficulty level. This is actually a fun game.
Rental only, don't waste your time February 14, 2007 A. Jenkinson (New Zealand) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I brought this game yesterday and it literally took me 4 hours to complete, thats including all the official cut scenes from the movie and time spent building up your characters attributes. I was shocked when i got to the 4th Level and realised that it was actually a Level and not a stage within a Level. This took about 30 minutes. Some of the later Boss battles involving Jedi are a little harder but will only trouble you a couple of times. The levels are completely linear with hardly any intuition called for from the gamer. Every minute you are prompted with subtitles and lights on the ground indicating where you should use your 'force' power, which you have no control of. This takes a lot of fun out of the game. The Jedi Powers are fun for a while but don't seem to upgrade greatly although i did think the idea of using the Right Analogue stick to direct your force power was quite good. All in all this feels like a game that was on the recieving end of a couple of lightsaber blows, it has to be the shortest game i've played in years. To be honest i wouldn't even recommend this for rental unless you had a mate over to battle against after you complete the game and open up the 8 or so characters in total. So much potential, the light saber battles can be great but most of the time its just too easy or too hard, theres no consistency. Having just spent a lot of time playing Dragon Ball Tenkachi 2 and witnessing the epic battle that take place in that, the fights in ROTS are pathetic. You really don't feel like your in complete control of the character and the controls seem to have a half a second lag time between button pushing and action execution. As you can see this has really let me down, i could go on all day about how dissappointed i am but i guess i'll just go back to God of War and hone my skills until the second one comes out in a week or so. Don't trust the other reviews, i was decieved by them and am regretting it.
One for the fans May 30, 2006 jbezzo (Cumbria) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Like many of LucasArts movie tie-ins, ROTS follows the thread of the film pretty much blow for blow. The final chapter of the Star Wars prequel trilogy charts the fall of Anakin Skywalker and his transformation into Darth Vader - and the game follows suit. It's basically a beat-em up with lightsabers, as you switch between playing Anakin and Obi-Wan as you progress ever surely to the mother of all duels. This essentially is a very ordinary game - fight off baddies and develop your saber skills as you go - enabling you to pull off more and more spectacular moves. Hardened gamers will not find much to challenge them, but to a longtime fan of the Star Wars series, I found it enjoyable to say the least. With clips from the films and music from the score, the game possesses great atmosphere, especially when the lightsabers are humming and clashing with abandon. It's style over substance, but great fun nontheless - especially when you get to unlock Darth Vader as a character and re-enact the famous battle with Obi-Wan in A New Hope.
