I wish he hadn't May 1, 2007 D. Climo 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always been a fan (not a die-hard one) of the Superman character because of his powers and 'that' music. I remember going to see Superman Returns with high hopes after hearing that it was much better (which the film is) than that Superman film we never talk about. I was hoping it would be better than Superman 3 (which is good though) and on par with the first two. It wasn't. However after hearing about this game being a Spiderman 2 style free roaming ability, I started getting excited, especially after hearing you could fly nearly into space without a loading screen! On the day of release I took it home after buying it at my local GAME. For the first few hours of play I was hooked. However I found it soon became very repetitive and, once the story mode is over (which doesn't even stick close to the film, which some may say is a good thing but it's still not brilliant) it soon gets VERY BORING. It doesn't even have 'that' music. It's no where near as bad as Superman N64 but it's also no where near as good as the last three Spiderman games (Spiderman 2, Ultimate Spiderman and Spiderman 3 Xbox 360). Take my advice. See it on the shelf? Get one of those Spidey games instead, they are FAR BETTER.
Dire! January 7, 2007 Mr. S. W. Steel (England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Avoid this game at all costs.I am a huge Superman fan in terms of films, and graphic novels and this does nothing but make a mockery of the hero. The graphics are utterly appalling for a game at the end of the Ps2's life. They should be brilliant like Metal Gear, of Final Fantasy, but they aren't.The free roaming city is a joke, especially as it is all so bland. At least in GTA the place is crawling with people going about their lives, and the architecture varies. The plot doesn't even follow the Superman Returns film! You have endless, tedious missions which just don't inspire. The controls are awkward at best; and downright obstructive at worst. The targetting system is really poor and to switch targets is such an exercise in testing your patience! The voice-overs and soundtrack are poor. The voices are uninspiring and where is the main theme of Superman scored by John Williams?!Nowhere! This is just a criminal waste of an opprtunity that you sit in front of the screen in a kind of shock. I haven't played this game all the way through and i don't think i will.It doesn't grip or inspire me.And i LOVE Superman! That is really worrying. I don't have anything good to say about this game ,other than avoid it all costs. If you are a Superman fan and want a game where he is involved then i would recommend Justice League Heroes. That game captures the feel of the DC universe much better than this, is more fun and has had more thought and love poured into it than this shameless cash in. When will Superman get a great game of his own?Spiderman has a few, and Batman Begins is not bad........ Come on, get someone to develop a Superman game who really gets the 'feel' of the character!!!!
They should off stuck with the great movie!!! January 7, 2007 Mr. M 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is absoulutly awful. There is nothing to do for ages. I was just flying around and at the end of it, I got sick to DEATH of it. The graphics are rubbish and it is just...well... RUBBISH!!!! I took it back and got a refund as I was sooo bored and dissapointed about this game. Don't buy!!!
Super Boring December 28, 2006 U. Mahmood (U.K) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well lets get started with the flying. Travels fairly fast, but seems too static in mid air. Heat vision, breath power...etc is fine. Cinematic cut scenes acceptable in graphics terms. Whole city to explore-fantastic.! Travels high into the sky-good! Missions-They get boring. It is the same. you just finished defeating a pair of robots. 20 seconds later you get some sort of flying dragons. you have defeated the dragons, you get the robots again. The missions go in a loop. Trust me they get boring. It is not like Spiderman 2's missions. Its fun to play for the first time, but wears of very quickly. My advice is to wait till the price drops significantly because it is not worth spending 15-20 on this. And i wouldn't recommend renting it either because it will take you quite a while to complete the same repetitive mission just to advance a little in the game. no wonder the release date kept being pushed back.- I think they were trying to make it better. If the creators of Spiderman 2 made it, it would have been better in my opinion.
why the hype? December 28, 2006 D. Knowland 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this game expecting it to be something special as everything I had read and seen on it pointed towards it being like spiderman 2 with there being a storyline and side missions however there is no real story line you do little side missions which are very repetitive then after a while it shows you part of the film. Also you may have read the bit about you decide whether you save metropolis or catch the evil person well, you don't the only part I saw where there was any decision was in a video and you didn't decide (superman just paused to think then flew off). However the graphics are amazing and the gameplay is very good but other than that it really lets itself down in every other aspect. So it was a really good idea done badly.
