There cannot be a Spidey fan alive that hasn't seen the stunning movie trailer for the new film, but rather less is known about the accompanying game. It will feature a free roaming environment similar to the previous games though, which is no surprise considering how popular they are and how most subsequent superhero games have reused the same concept. It's also known that almost the entire movie cast will be lending their vocal talents to the game, including Tobey Mcguire, Kirsten Dunst, Thomas Haden Church, James Franco, Topher Grace and Bryce Dallas Howard. The main villains of the game will, like the movie, be Sandman, Venom and the new Green Goblin. However several other minor Spider-Man villains will also appear from the comics, including Shriek and the mysterious Dragon Boss. More information will undoubtedly show up as the movie's release date grow closer but a teaser trailer of the in-game graphics for Spidey himself suggest that this will be one of the most impressive next gen movies license so far.

3 out of 5 stars Good but Not Bad   March 2, 2008

OK lets get things straight. Spidey 3 is not a bad game, it is, in fact, great fun. The additional villains, like Kraven and Lizard, are great competition and wearing the strong and awesome black suit is fantastic.

New York is less enjoyable than SM2 (no times square and no death after jumping off empire state) but the missions are great despite their shortness.

i just wish you could play as new goblin.

i say buy the game if u like the films and fun.

an overview from me. its my 6 yr olds game, but i love watching him play. other reviews seem fair. after seeing the previous spiderman games i realised this one is glossy, polished but actually not as fun as sp.2 or friend or foe, theres just not as much to do. the moves are more limited. despite being 'freeroaming' i found, as one reviewer pointed out, i felt disconnected from the story because theres no real interaction with the city or people. they just walk through you and through the vehicles. you dont go into the buildings. its an impressive piece of software, but the involvement i felt with spiderman friend or foe was far more. spiderman2 was diverse and detailed. go with the other games before this.

2 out of 5 stars Just like the film - an excellent premise wasted   August 19, 2007

I'm a big, big Spider-Man fan, and I adored the game affiliated to the second film on the PS2, so I thought I would give this a shot. I wish I hadn't bothered.

Firstly, I hadn't seen a lot of videos on YouTube from the game, so I wasn't expecting any brilliant graphics work especially as the PS2 is coming to the end of its shelf life. But what we've been given is a vastly inferior product, almost as if the PS2 version was an afterthought. I lost count of how many times I fought "ghost" characters which weren't drawn in, how many times Spidey disappeared when he swang near a wall...we weren't expecting anything groundbreaking, but the level of graphics from the second game would have been nice. The city looked flat and was a nightmare to navigate, it just does not draw quickly enough.

Secondly, the controls were terrible and stopped me dead many times. Again, the second game was perfect for this. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

The missions were dull as well as pointless (Pies? Seriously?) and were not testing at all.

The only good points were: the introduction of the gang system (gave a little extra depth) and the black suit, although that was a given.

Overall though, I'd pick it up at a budget price, but not a lot more. And it breaks my heart to say that. Just like the film, a promising-looking game turns out to be a mere annoyance.

4 out of 5 stars not as bad as it has been made out   August 4, 2007

to start with, i think why so many people hate it is because owners of a ps2 are brought back to earth with a bump after seeing the ps3 version on youtube and such like.

i have played both ps2 and ps3 versions and i can say in all honesty i enjoy the ps2 version more. i'll admit, i'm a bit of a fan boy when it comes to spiderman films and games, and the swinging is a vital part of its general game play for me. for ps3 it remains more or less similar as spidey 2, hit R2 = webline out of nowhere, but for ps2 its alot more fluid, you actually see the process of him reaching out, shooting the line and swinging, plus there is a cool feature where you then pull your legs back and increase jump height at the end of the swing arc. as i say, i look too much into it as i'm a fant boy, hah.

admitadley the story quote on the box '5 different stories' to follow is very loose, there are a few stories but it doesn't have the freedom that the quote implies.

the combat is good, simple, but good, unlike the ps3s stupidly complex one. the upgrade system is simple however the hilarious commentator guy returns along with it. (my main dissapointment is his lack of appearence however, he is so funny.)

a gang system is introduced so that in your spare time you get to knock some thugs senseless and then see how much the police begin to reclaim the streets. whats good is, at the end, even when you defeat all the gangs, you probably havn't got all the upgrades, but then a system is intorduced in which you can help the police sort out micellaneous crimes to earn the rest of the experience.

the black suit is cool, but the novelty wears off pretty soon, and its satisfying when you manage to get red spidey to the same level of power through upgrades.

the graphics for ps2 are suprisingly good however they come at a price, there are often times when swinging through a packed out frame the fluidness is lost (as in frame movement slows slightly), this occurance is rare however.

it is easy but then spiderman games are, it was like 2, very easy and then the last boss is tricky.

so yeah for ps2, i believe it to be a very good game and it shows all the attributes of 2 we loved in a better manner. but whoever liked 2 must have thought its length was an issue, if nothing else this gives you more oppurtunity to obliterate some more spidey missions.

i hope this helped

2 out of 5 stars Not quite what i expected...   July 31, 2007

I was looking forward to this game months before it came out. I was told lies and scandlal by the makers of this game (Activision). The Graphics were brilliant and really improved on the last's game's graphics. However, the gameplay wasn't really all that good. The swinging and agility had much that needed to be worked on but the sound wasn't exactly bad!

Graphics and sound are needed in this game, however gameplay is much more important and you would need more than an ambulance to fix this game. What i'm trying to say is that this game belongs at the best of the worst and the worst of the best. I advise and warn you to stay away from this game and spend your money on something worthwhile.
