Amazon.co.uk Review
If ever a film was overdue for the console treatment it is Rocky. The game is full of the atmosphere of all five films. From Rocky's humble beginnings to his crowning glory as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, this game has the lot. Take control of the Italian Stallion in your effort to beat the rest--including Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang (aka Mr T), Ivan Drago and Tommy Gunn--and be the best.

Like most boxing games it has the usual exhibition and sparring modes, but being licensed from a film it also has the all-important movie mode, which is where the fun starts. Progress through the fights to unlock each new opponent en route to meeting your big movie rivals. After each fight you'll need to improve your fighting prowess by training; you can do this the hard way, under your own steam, or opt for the auto-train mode which improves your precious stats for your next bout. Finish the movie mode and unlock the knockout tournament and prepare for some intense button bashing.

With the ring full of boxing sims the question is "Which one packs the biggest punch?" Rocky, with its great graphics, great combos and the all-important great gameplay, is the top contender. --Rob Holliday

5 out of 5 stars Don't Hesitate - By It Now!   October 12, 2006

If you are a rocky fan buy it now! You won't regret it. Superb but simple gameplay which makes the EA boxing games look ridiculously complicated and a waste of time and energy. Anyway how many of you out there only bought the likes of 'Knockout Kings' so you could create a Rocky character, like I did? Well there's no need, here you've got them all, Clubber Lang, Drago, Tommy Gun and Creed, even some of the club fighters that feature or are mentioned in the films.
I bought this game after reading nothing but positive reviews here on amazon so I thought I owed it to everyone to write my own. Go for it!

5 out of 5 stars Top quality Boxing game   November 7, 2003

This is without doubt the best boxing game available for the PS2. The playability is superb and the graphics look great. It's in Movie Mode that this game really comes into its own. You play as Rocky against various opponents including Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago and Tommy Gunn. You also get to take on such boxers as Spider Rico (Rocky's opponent at the beginning of the first movie)and Mac Lee Green (The boxer who pulled out of the first fight with Apollo which gave Rocky his chance). There is even a lovely little touch in the first fight against Apollo, where they have got Rocky wearing a different colour of trunks in the ring from the ones he is seen wearing in the poster in the arena.
But be warned this game is no button basher. You might get away with it in the first couple of fights, but as the opponents get progressivley harder you will need a decent defence or your boxer will take a pounding.
As in any activity which requires great physical exertion, you must train in order to get into peak physical condition. There are little mini games inside the movie mode where you train to upgrade your stats. You can autotrain if you want to, but if you are able to master the mini games (I still can't get to grips with the punchbag) your stats will rocket and your boxer will become stronger, faster, more determined etc.
This game will keep you entertained for hours and if you fancy punching your friend's lights out the two player mode is just as good. It's a rare treat when you come across a game that you still want to play and which still challenges you six months after you bought it. Rocky is one of those games.

4 out of 5 stars Best boxing game yet   June 4, 2003

This is an unbeliavabley addictive and enjoying game which offers both exhibitions aswell as the enduring story mode. The graphics are great quality whilst the gameplay is smooth and as fun as 'Ready to Rumble' however keeping in line with the combos and seriousness of the real Rocky film. Superb animated galleries containing various scenes from the film and basically a must have to any Rocky fan who is tired of the dull and tiresome previous boxing titles.

This game is surprisingly huge considering it is only a boxing game. Trust me even if your not a fan of the sport you'll love it by the brilliant looking visuals it boasts and the amazingly realistic and addictive gameplay this ia a classic since ready to rumble on the dreamcast.

5 out of 5 stars Rocky - Class   December 18, 2002
The game runs true to the Movie Story moving through the five Rocky films. With great all opponents looking the business and showing the signs of a good Rocky ruffing up when you've given them a good pasting! The likes of a ring battle with Clubber Lang (Mr.T) Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and Appollo Creed and even a quality streetfight with Tommy Gunn! You can even train rocky in the gym to train his skills and fitness etc. A well recommended excellent game with brilliant playability. Buy it and you won't be disappointed
