Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
When Nintendo created the Game Boy, the world was introduced to a simple yet devastatingly effective Russian game--Tetris. 12 years on, they've moved onto the Game Boy Advance but, rather than subject us to yet another incarnation of the block-dropping puzzler, Nintendo have given us Kuru Kuru Kurunin.

For those of you that can't speak Japanese, Kuru Kuru Kurunin loosely translates into "Crazy Stick Game"--well, not really, but that's the best description you're going to get. Put simply, the game is based around the idea that you are a duck, and that this duck, apart from having a plethora of friends, drives a space ship that resembles a long stick (stay with us on this one--it gets better).

Your task is to control the duck's spaceship through a series of tunnels to get to the end of the level. The only problem is that your spaceship is constantly spinning and the tunnel doesn't always stay the same width as the spaceship. As you progress through the game, the tunnels get harder, with you having to avoid objects, bounce off springs and basically muster all your prowess in later levels to get by.

With three lifelines, the game's concept is fairly simple and yet for some strange reason very addictive. You can't help but think that you'll crack it on the next go and three hours later still be trying. Very Japanese in its creation, this is certainly one of the more entertaining and original GBA launch titles.--Jason Denwood

5 out of 5 stars Great addictive GBA game.   September 4, 2005
Steven Carne (Cornwall, UK)
I got this game on GBA launch day, and admittedly I really barely play it any more, but I can recommend it for the price it is used here!
It's a very simple game:
You control a rotating stick, and have to guide it through some levels without touching the walls, spikey balls etc.
You get 3 hits until you fail, but there are heart squares now and again that you can recharge on. There are also springs that make you rotate in the other direction.
There is also a challenge mode where you have a very small level and 2 hearts to get to the end with.
If you manage to get to the end of the level in either mode without hitting a wall at all then you get a gold star on that level, and I have yet to experience what happens when you get all levels with a star!
The game is very simple and addictive and I strongly reccommend it as it's the kind of thing we don't see much of outside of Japan (the GameCube has a Japan only version which looks a bit more complex with bosses).
There is also a multiplayer mode which works with a single cart. It's a race to the end of the level basically, it's simple and fun, but unlikely to overtake MarioKart as the multiplayer favourite.
There are a some extras to find in levels to customise your stick- you get a bird on it for each area done (you are looking for your little bird friends in the "story"), and you can have different colours or have spikey/bendy etc. I personally leave mine the same as originally because it's just a bit irritating for me, but the option's there! As it's quite likely you'll be playing this on GBASP, or GBPlayer (or even GB Micro in the future) maybe you'll use this option more because you can see clearly what you're doing!

This game is one of those that will hit you in waves, it will be all that you want to get your hands on for a time and then it is forgotten. But don't worry you will get you're money's worth.
The only bad thing that I can think of is that it is too easy to cheat, I found myself getting frustrated with a level and just making my wee ship even wee-er. Over all a great, fun game.

5 out of 5 stars Kuru Kuru What??????   October 24, 2001

Many people believe that the Gameboy Advanced will be the big hit this christmas and claim to know everything about it, however if you mention Kuru Kuru Kurunin you will be met by a confused look(Hmmmmm I wonder why.)Explain to them that it is in fact a game where you control a revolving wand(?)that you have to control round a maze without crashing in to walls and you will be left alone to your thoughts. The idea is simple although you can't help wondering who came up with it. You control the aforementioned revolving wand around a maze while tryiny not to crash into the sides.Three hits and your wand is smashed and it's back to the start of the level. In terms of lifespan your limited to a small number of mazes and the only options are to change the colour of your wand, However you will keep coming back to this for sheer challenge and in my opinion your money will be well spent if you buy this.

this is game is incredibly addictive. The storyline is terrible, and aimed at younger children but the game itself is challenging, and really addictive. BUY THIS GAME.

5 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD THIS IS GROUNDBREAKINGLY FUN   July 18, 2001

Well i hate the game. It has put my life into suspended animation for a month or so. I now only have 1 true friend (you know the sort of friend who you can trust) my GBA. I get sucked into it for hours and hours at a time. I got 20 batteries with my GBA and they are all gone. All of them. It IS frustrating but fun very fun. And for the first time in about a month I actually logged on to the internet using MSN messenger and I remembered the friends i have so I do have friends. But recently they have merely been toys in my life. This game is so addictive i am now going to stop this review to go and play on it. Goodbye.

Oh and BUY BUY BUY THIS GAME. GO ON.
