Amazon.co.uk Review You don't have to be a military genius to recognise that Advance Wars is one of the best strategy war games for any console. The game pits four fictional city-states in a battle for territory; your job as commanding officer is to defeat the enemies in turn-based combat over land, air and sea. Advance Wars has a stiff learning curve, but its interactive tutorials can turn the greenest GI into a great leader of pixelated men. The game also offers many multiplayer options, including the ability to play against a friend by passing the GBA back and forth, and to extend the possibilities you can also create new battlefields and trade them with others. Despite cutesy visuals, this is a very deep game that is also accessible. For GBA generals looking to flex their tactical muscles or anyone looking for a simply great GBA game, look no further. --Mark Brooks

The Original and The Best! July 10, 2008 Snowy3 (UK) This is a great strategy game! it may look like its for kids with the cute little soldiers and the tanks but when you get to the gameplay it can be quite hard. There was lots of variety as some levels you were at sea whereas others you took to the skys. It also allowed you to earn bonuses so if you wanted to power your way in then you got bounus for being quick to finish...however if you wanted to be clever and plan a trap then you could go for different bonuses. I like turn based games and thought this was a great example!
war!!!!!!!! and more war!!!!!!! September 30, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you want war here it is. Advance wars is the best game so far (on GBA any way). It's a great multiplayer game especially the part that you don't even have to have a link cable. you can just pass the GBA around. On campaign you start off with a CO called Andy and when you get further into the game you can also play as Max and Sami. you will have many opponent's from different army's. All you have to do to win is either capture the enemy HQ or destroy all of the opponent's unit's. The main storyline is that the Black hole army is terrorising the world and it's up to the Orange star,Blue moon,Green earth, and Yellow comet army's to stop them.If you like war games this is the game for you.

Nintendo Does Chess March 15, 2004 Richard Douglason (Exeter) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
In my all time top 5 Turn Based Strategy (TBS) games this ranks up there with the likes of Chess, Laser Squad and Battle Isle (for those of you who remember).Being a TBS things proceed in turns. First you move and fire your units then your opponents do there's, and so on. Sounds simple, well it is to begin with, but like in chess you soon start getting wrapped up in complex tactics as you battle for the advantage. The glory of this title is in it's attention to detail. Whether in the effect of terrain on your units, or how many bullets they have left, or how far they can shoot. All the information you could need is well modelled and easily available. It also does it all with great style, that means its a very compelling gaming experience. And you can literally loose hours staring at your GBA. Think I may go and have a quick game before work. All in all well worth it.
this is a wicked game. highly recommended February 14, 2004 A. J. Reading (St Albans, UK) i first heard about this game from a friend who read about it in NGC magazine. so, i decided to go buy it, as did my friend. It is a really simple game to play, once you get the hang of firing on the enemy, and the design a map part i excelent. the vs mode is brilliant, you can either use a link cable or pass the one gameboy around. i am hoping to get advance wars 2: black hole rising for my birthday, becaue it will be even better than the first! My advice is BUY IT, AND BUY IT NOW!!! it is really worth it so what do you do...BUY IT!!!!!
