Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
In Star Wars: the New Droid Army the Clone Wars are raging, and the Jedi Council has had word that a dangerous new battle droid has been seen on Tatooine. The council has sent young Jedi Anakin Skywalker to investigate.

This game has two important things going for it: the graphics are top-notch, with 3-D polygons, smooth animation and vibrant colours, and the music includes snippets from the movies, with impressive sound effects given the GBA's tiny speaker. Hearing the hum of the light sabre, the twang of laser shots and (perhaps most impressively) the creepy guffaws of the Tusken Raiders could bring a tear to the eye.

But while the sights and sounds of Star Wars: the New Droid Army are impressive, the gameplay is a mixed bag. As young Anakin you run around, slicing stuff up with your light sabre. And then you slice some more, and then a bit more. You do have certain force powers that add to gameplay (moving quickly, jumping really high, becoming invisible, healing wounds and so on), but not enough to completely relieve the tedium.

The biggest flaw is the lack of character interaction. You will often need to talk to people to gather information, but not all people can talk; thus most characters are window dressing. Worse, there is no cartridge save option in the game. This is a good-looking game that falls well short of classic status. --Bryan Karsh

4 out of 5 stars The Force is strong (ish) in this one!   January 21, 2003

It always pays to be sceptical of games based on film licenses but SW:NDA seems to have pulled off a bit of a coup. Considering the hardware limitations on the GBA the graphics are awesome, the character animations really flow and the special lightsaber moves look very authentic. Similarly the sounds are all spot-on from the crackle of your lightsaber to the cackling of the Jawas. The game's not perfect though - despite a fairly decent plot (better than the actual plot of EpII??)it's fairly one dimensional - run around chopping up everything you come accross, and despite the accuracy of the sounds it's a shame there weren't more of them - the BattleDroids "Roger, roger!" would have been a great touch.

All in all though I would say this game is definately worth getting, it's not everyday you get to be a Jedi knight!
