Amazon.co.uk Review
After an absence of almost eight years, Samus Arran is finally back in Metroid Fusion battling evil in a brand new 2-D arcade adventure that's one of the best GBA games so far.

Taking its cue from the SNES game Super Metroid, this all-new title starts with Samus infected by the evil X parasites and battling to rid a space station of their menace. Part platform game, part shoot-'em-up and part RPG, the Metroid games are some of the most revered in all gaming history.

With a gameplay not unlike that of the newer Castlevania games (although Metroid did it all first), Metroid Fusion forces you to explore the huge space station as you slowly regain your various bounty hunting powers. The game includes all the old Metroid power-ups, including the morph ball and screw attack and plenty of other new gadgets. There's also the chance to practise your wall bounce, which must rank as one of the most difficult yet satisfying moves to pull off ever in a video game. Another nice new twist is that all the enemies are infected by X parasites, so when you shoot them the parasites just fly off and infect another creature unless you catch them first.

As good as the game is, though, it's not as perfectly designed as its forebear--there's far too much dull story line and the game is (perhaps by necessity on a portable console) more linear than before. But even these slight foibles might be seen as positives by some, making this a game no-one will want to miss. --David Jenkins

5 out of 5 stars Best GBA game I have ever played!   November 21, 2007
LJ (UK)
This game is FANTASTIC in many different ways:

1) Progressive and addictive storyline
2) Game made me feel genuine emotion, slight fear at times - like watching one of the less intence horror films. I have never experienced this with any other game
3) VERY addictive
4) The game lasts a very long time so its good value for money
5) Is intence, exciting and at times emotional
6) Noticable progression through the game as Samus gains more and more powers and upgrades
7) The game setting is vast - easily could get lost without on-screen maps
8) Can be paused at ant time and can be saved regurarly - I have never been in a position with the game where I was going to lose data

Overall rating 5/5
My only critism is that it is pretty hard and sometimes it takes a while to figure out what to do and this leads to frustration - but all problems are resolved eventually (often, I have to confess, with walkthroughs). The fact that it is challenging makes it ideal for those in late teens and adulthood.

In my opinion one of, if not the best GBA game in existance. Highly recommended - The prices aren't bad either, and the game, even if it was expensive would still be good value becausse of the long gameplay.

after 8 years since the critically acclaimed super metroid on the Snes hit the shelves we are given this. metroid fusion. this is not a platformer like mario and not a shooter like doom. this is a kind of hybrid. it includes both platforming elements with jumping and power-ups with shooting, huge enemies big weapons. this game encourages exploration. it does give you a guide of where to go but if you listen to it too much you'll skip plenty of the power-ups and bonuses.
this is a short game however it's quite tricky and you'll come back to play again as the story is not what keeps you playing. it's possible to finish the game in a couple hours but it's unlikely. you'll repeatedly die and be stuck on the same bit for days but it's never frustrating.
this is a fantastic gba game. well worth investing in. not quite as good as super metroid and slightly less freedom but great non the less

4 out of 5 stars Blaster or Disaster?   June 20, 2007

As there was no metroid game on the N64, fans had to wait 8 long years for Metroid 4 to come out, but was the wait worth it? The answer for me is yes.

Basically, the plot is that a new virus caled the "x" virus has been found and (like all the other metroid characters) wants to take over the world. The plot is much deeper than that but lets not get into that.

It has an intriguing storyline storyline and more things to uncover than a treasure convention, this is a great game, but it's hard. Non-hardcore metroid fans might find this game impossible but even for metroid fans this is one of Samus' toughest outings. It's worth buying, and hey, if you complete it in under 3 hours Samus might take her helmet off for you....

Plot - samus aran is bonded with an X parasite causing her to be reborn,
this causing her to lose most of her abilities also samus has been cloned,
samus must gather her abilities to take down her clone and find out what is going on.
This game is really really great the graphics are amazing the game play is great
and the game is really easy to get into, one minor complaint would be that it's a bit
easy apart from that it's fantastic, BUY IT NOW !

This is an amazingly good game. It's just as creepy as Prime and is one the hardest games i've played. At certain times it seems almost impossible, but if you keep searching eventually you find the way forward. If you get loads of the items theres a very good ending aswell.
