It's Going Toy-Crazy! June 21, 2007 James 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
There are some really great games out there that no one seems to appreiciate, this is one of them. Mario vs Donkey Kong didn't seem to be noticed. even being bundled with a special super mario Game Boy Advance SP wasn't helping, which is a real shame. The general storyline is that Donkey Kong wants to buy a new "Mini Mario" toy, but when he arrives at the store they are sold out. Donkey Kong then goes ape *ahem* and attempts to steal all the Mini Marios from the toy company. This challenging puzzler is a great game with heaps of Mario charm, and if you stick with it long enough you're sure to get to the super-hard +Levels. Don't ignore it, buy it!
Mario VS. Donkey Kong September 17, 2006 .. (United Kingdom) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Fiendish Mario puzzler!! To start with you see a Cartoon where DK sees an Advert for these Toys so he goes off to get them, unfortunately they are out of stock so he goes and pillages the Mario Toy Company stock so he has a massive collection,, then dumbly dropping them through ridiculey small doors which you have to get to at the end of the Level. Not Always Simple. Mario Is notified and so begins the Mission to get them back. Mario In this game however is completely different with a Whole new set of lythe gymnastic Tricks to get about the levels. The Levels are great to start with but the Learning curve sort of goes out the Window and gets steep. From World 4 Or 5 Onwards Its really quite tough finding out when to press the switch and Jump and so on. There are also Levels after the first 8 Worlds and Is really frustrating based on Timing then precisely to the seconds when to jump the ledge and grab something. Worlds are refreshed with a different backdrop and new Enemies In each World. Such as Factory style machines Forest/Jungle Animals and fire Creatures. Additionally there are Presents for each Level which are needed to get the STAR score to get 100% per cent rating. An Enjoyable moment Is Just before the Boss Battle you Lead you mini Marios to the safe Toy box which later act as Lives when fighting DK. There are a lot of Levels to be worked through here, and as I said very steep Increase In the Complexity of Levels. Usually the Levels are not very big Just wide angle platforms but vary In width and length. Presents add more value and helps you achieve that Gold Crown status on your profile. Nice Graphics, fun AND Frustrating Levels lots to come back for In terms of completing all Levels with a certain limit and the amount, Including challenge. This is better than MVD2: March of the Minis, as It Is More Original and key to what it Is.
Perfect for handheld. March 27, 2005 Steven Carne (Cornwall, UK) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
Mario vs DK was a game that I wasn't really expecting much from, but it really surprised me when I got it how perfect it was for GBA. The game has you (Mario) getting to the exit of a small area (usually not much more than 1 screen big) after finding a key within a time limit. After achieving this you do a 2nd similar stage except you are rescuing a Mario toy, then it's level complete. This sounds simple, but there are presents to collect for extra points, and loads of moves to learn to vary the levels alot. The short levels are perfect for portable playing, because you can play for 2 minutes or an hour! It's very addictive because the goal is always in sight, so you'll always want to retry. The game has a perfect learning curve too, you'll probably breeze through the 1st few worlds, but you'll soon get to a challenge. Also, you can return to previously completed levels to earn stars for high scores and that unlocks new stuff too. There are variations to the game- the boss levels are different, but there is also a level on each world where you have the Mario toys following you and you have to lead them to the end while collecting items. These levels are a nice change of pace from the main game too. I'd definitely recommend this game if you like platform games, it's up with my favourite GBA games: WarioWare, Zelda Minish Cap, Zelda ALttP, Yoshi's Island, MarioKart.

Mario VS Donkey kong is one of the best games ever made. you can choose whether to play as Mario or Donkey or Diddy. There are also boss fights between them. There aren't any better mario/donkey games out there so buy this one!!!!!!!!!!!!
