The good old days July 26, 2007 Geraint Richards (united Kingdom) Firstly I haven't got this game on the GBA I have actually got the good old NES cartridge that fits in the NES, and I love the game, the music is so classical and awesome, and it's challenging and fun, I am a Nintendo fan and a Metroid fan I love this game, yes the corridor looks the same that doesn't bother me were in the past in this game, it's a good story line where you need to kill Ridley and Kraid to beat the 3rd big boss mother brain which is hard unless you got plenty of missiles and energy tanks, a must have for a Metroid fan
Don't buy this. Buy Metroid: zero mission July 25, 2006 Mr. D. P. Lawton 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
For all those who are fans of metroid and want to buy the original game... do not buy this one. Buy metroid zero mission. You can play through a new game based on the original story, and when you complete it you will unlock the original NES version. Therefore two games in one.
good, but not groundbreaking. June 3, 2005 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
review of NES classics: metroid( GBA or DS ) as always in metroid games you begin on planet zebes, home planet of the space pirates. You are SAMUS ARAN, space bounty hunter. graphics- 1. Some bleak 8- bit graphics- come on, nintendo, you could have at least made the graphics better. Also, the background environment and enemies never seem to change as you move from one place to another. difficulty- 10. Rock solid gaming, this. Don't expect to fly through this unless you've mastered the original metroid in the NES. gameplay- 6. Fun to play for a while, but gets boring when you can't jump on to the next platform because the enemy which you can't shoot because the platform is too low. This gets very frustrating and annoying after you've gone past the same area about a hundred times. overral- 68%. Fun to play for a while, but gets frustating when you keep falling in the lava because you can only get past some of the enemies with breat difficulty. The sleep doesn't save this game because it is hardly used. It is also frustating that if you die you have to begin from the very start of the area you are in.
Bad game= waste of money... March 27, 2005 Mojo (Wales, UK) 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
I'll split the review into two parts, the good and the bad:GOOD: Cast your mind all the way to the eighties, think of the NES, then think of Metroid-A really good platforming game at first, the bosses are hard to beat, it's full of challenge, but, that's the only good thinhg about the game... BAD: At first, it's good, you get the Morph Ball (or Maru Mari) and then you go rolling around in...the same locations...It hits you, what the? I've been down here before, seriously! The locations are the same: Long corridor with acid, short tunnel, tall tower room, long corridor with acid... See what I'm going at here? It's like you've been going around and around, and that is terribly annoying! Second of all, Nintendo have just pulled a big money-wasting prank on you. I have this game already. On Metroids Prime and Zero Mission! It was a bonus extra! Why waste 15 on this when you can get the far, far, superior Metroid Prime for 20 and have this game bundled free, that's why I didn't get this game, because I already had two free versions!!! Graphics-Appaling, blocky 2-D stuff! 2/5 Sounds-Bleep, blork, annoying music! 1/5 Difficulty-Did I just come down here? Arrrrrgh!!! 5/5 LifeSpan-It takes about three hours, but you'll never want to stick with it! 2/5 FINAL VERDICT!!!-Why, Nintendo? Why?
Pretty good if you stick at it. January 22, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is one of my favourite NES Classics at the moment. I'm not really very good at it, but it is fun. If you own Smash Bros Melee on GC, you'll recognise the music in this instantly- that was the first thing I liked about it. In this game, you play as Samus Aran, like most of the NES games it just throws you into the game with no explanation- you just have to find new abilities like the morph ball to roll into small gaps and shoot enemies that get in your way. The only 2D Metroid I'd ever played previously was Fuison for the GBA, so this was nice as it shows where the ideas all came from for that game as well as the 3D ones on GameCube. There is a good sense of exploration as you go around the game, it's tough and frustrating, but a lot more loveable than some of the other NES Classics. The problems with it are that there is no map so it can get confusing and frustrating, the graphics are not amazing or varied so that adds to the problem of forgetting your way. Obviously being a NES game, you wouldn't expect great graphics, so this is forgivable. I'd still reccommend either Fusion on the GBA or Zero Mission on the GBA (this is a remake of the original anyway) if you want a 2D Metroid game (also Super Metriod on the SNES). If you own a GameCube, you unlock this game anyway if you connect completed saves of Metroid Prime(GC) and Metriod Fusion(GBA).
