Manufacturer's Description Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability. Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it. With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

Getting better but its still rubbish gameplay October 15, 2008 32g (Manchester, England) I buy Fifa every year to see if it has improved before I trade it in for Pro Evolution which is always released later. Fifa 09 is probably the best yet and I was entertained for a couple of days but the gameplay is so repetative, the players all move the same, you score the same boring goals all the time. I can see what EA Sports are trying to do but they can't seem to match the gameplay of PES, although I will admit PES2008 on PS3 was a joke but even then it was still better than any Fifa ever released. Its simple for me, if you like prawn sarny's go and buy Fifa if you actually know anything about football you will know PES is still number one, its far more realistic. EASY REALLY.
Review on the FULL game and NOT the DEMO or PES! October 15, 2008 James Brown (Essex, England) Firstly I think that anyone reading these reviews should ignore the silly comparisons between FIFA and PES which hasn't even been released yet!! Who cares about PES? The reviews should be about FIFA and it's gameplay, not PES!! Wanna know about PES? Wait for it to come out and play it or read the reviews about it WHEN IT IS RELEASED!! So, I have bought FIFA for the last two years and I thoroughly believe that they have done a remarkable job this year! The layout, menus, graphics etc are all the same as last year (pretty much) but have concentrated solely on the gameplay which I believe is the most important factor of any game. The gameplay is much faster, more responsive such as players making runs when you tell them, tackling, goal keepers getting up after making a save, passing, shooting etc. I love the fact it is all licensed teams, leagues and competitions, the crowd standing up when you have a shot on goal and the selectable goal celebrations (the little things of the game). If you had last years FIFA and enjoyed it, I would recommend purchasing this years title because I think it is definitely much better!
FIFA, is it FUN? October 13, 2008 Mr. S. S. Laurie (Scotland) Having bought FIFA 08 and 09, i have come to this conclusion. Its just not as fun as Pro ev and excuse me if im wrong but thats the point of video games. Dont get me wrong, FIFA 09 has many PROS, from the licenses to the sound and the passing but it doesnt make me come back for more. What im trying to say is, we all have played games that we keep comin back to. My examples of this are Football Manager, Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero and last but not least Pro Ev. Pro Ev is a more fun addictive game that overshadows FIFA 09.
good but still second best October 13, 2008 L. J. Rich (england) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
fifa has greatly improved this year but is still second best to pes when it comes to the best representation of real football. i would recommend this for kids as when i was a kid having all the licences was importmant as i wanted to play as my favourite players and teams. but if you really want to play the nearest thing to real football, buy pes 2009.
The best FIFA game in a long while October 13, 2008 MikeOckhurtz (Northampton, England) It has been a while coming, but this is undeniably the best FIFA game in a long while. EA Sports 'claim' that there is 250 modifications/improvements to the game, but I cant see that many personally. Here is my summary: GOOD POINTS:- ============= + Brilliant presentation and graphics (for the most part) + 30 fully licensed leagues (including the Coca-Cola Championship, League 1 & 2) + New Manager Mode is Very Good + Be a Pro mode is also Very Good + All the kits (well outfield players) are spot on + Gameplay is now vastly improved + Good Difficulty Levels & Also can choose speed of a game BAD POINTS:- ============ - Players up close look like inbred Mutants - Some Goalkeeper kits are nothing like they are in real life - Still not quite as polished gameplay wise as PES OVERALL:- This is a vast improvement over the last couple of FIFA games. It is the closest in years that PES and FIFA have been, but just (and only just) PES edges it - for me. I am sure that many, many people will disagree with me and that's fine. You are entitled to your opinions, as I am with mine.
