Described as a "high-suspense, fast-paced, no-holds-barred driving game", Wreckless immerses players into the adrenaline-pumped streets of Hong Kong. You can choose from two distinct story lines, to be part of an elite task force assigned to take down the Hong Kong Mafia or to become a high-level government agent trying to uncover links between the Mafia and the police.

There are 20 missions and 10 different vehicles to chose from and you can drive on pavements, through shopping malls and even drive over everything in your path (pedestrians excluded). But the more you crash, the more damaged your vehicle will become.

What has really got people excited is the different cameras you can view in the replay mode. From security cameras to cockpit, follow-cam, the graphics are so good-looking that you will want to take them home to your parents. Basically it looks like a film rather than a game and if this is any indication of what we can expect from the Xbox graphics card then we really can prepare for a gaming revolution.

1 out of 5 stars graphics don't make a game   May 13, 2003

I was told by a friend to buy this game as it had the best graphics he had ever seen in a driving sim. I must admit at first i was not disappointed they are great graphics but the game play is so bad that you soon forget the graphics and just get frustrated by the way in which the cars handel, I own project gotham if the cars performed as they do in project gotham this game would be brilliant but they don't and it isn't. Save your money wait for the sequel where i am sure they will improve this game no end.

4 out of 5 stars Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions   January 27, 2003

Wreckless is a driving game set in Hong Kong. If anyone here has owned "Super Runabout" for the Dreamcast, you will see similarities in this game. There are two scenarios - A and B. In A there are two female members of the Hong Kong Police force - Medoka and Mei. In B there are two male spies - Ho and Chang. In both scenarios, you are working against the "Yakuza". The Yakuza is a mob that is trying to steal things, break the law, and do other things. You have 8 missions in each scenario, and scenario A and B follow a storyline. You cannot get out of the car at all. The only times that you'll see Madoka, Mei, Ho, or Chang out of the car is in the cutscene before and/or after the mission. There are lots of vehicles to unlock, some of theme are hidden in the missions, and they include a tank, the Delorean from "Back to the Future", a Yakuza Car, a taxi, a monster truck, and many more. The missions require you to do lots of different things, including street racing, destruction of Yakuza Cars, photography, rushing blood packs to the hospital, protecting a double-decker bus with tourists on it from Yakuzas who want to destroy it, and even escaping on an aeroplane with cash. The cars can be damaged, but the damage is cosmetic. It is also context sensitive - if you have to destroy a Yakuza Car, and you fly into it at 90mph, you'll probably destroy it, but if rou ram it from behind at 40mph, you will probably need to hit it several times before it is destroyed. The handling of the vehicles is good. It differs from vehicle to vehicle - if you choose a sports car, it will accelerate quickly and have good brakes, whereas if you choose an armoured van, it won't go so fast and you'll have to take corners slower; but each and every car is great fun to drive, and there aren't any problems with the handling, except for the Tank 90. If anyone has unlocked the tank in "Super Runabout" for the Dreamcast, it's like that. You rotate the turret, and turn left and right, using the same joystick. This is crazy because there is the a D-Pad which doesn't do anything when you move it left and right, and it could have been made so that the left joystick does tank left and right, and the D-Pad does turret left and right, with it centring itself, but despite that, the game has excellent graphics, a massive map that has a stadium, an airport, a hospital, an underground vault, motorways, and tons of shortcuts to find, but there is just one really annoying thing about the game: When you destroy a vehicle, it won't just stay there, damaged, as if it has just been in an accident. Instead, it will flash, which looks ridiculos, and then dissapear. When you are watching your replay, (you can watch replays and save them) you destroy a car, and 3 seconds later, it's not there. It really spoils the game because it would look good if you drove around, and you saw a heap of cars there that you could ram until they fell apart! The game is still great fun to play though and worth buying.

When you reach the start menu of this game: Turn off you xbox console, this way it is more fun, trust me.
This was a game i brought when i first got my xbox, the only difference was i didn't take the xbox back the next day. Somtimes when you return things to a shop you make up stories like "i brought it for a friend and they already have it". There is no excuse for how bad this game is. Go and buy Project Gotham Racing, and be pleased to have never touched this dreadful game.

4 out of 5 stars Give Wreckless The Credit It Deserves   August 5, 2002

Wreckless : The Yakuza Mission brings you fast paced action direct to your Xbox. With the option of either becoming a member of an elite task force focusing on bringing down the Hong Kong mafia or becoming a government agent dealing with suspected links between police and the Mafia. Which ever scenario you choose, you will be driving though the city of Hong Kong undergoing one of twenty possible missions, ten for each scenario.

From the word go, your attention is focused on the breathtaking graphics which the game delivers. After you have completed your mission you will be shown a replay of your efforts. The replay gives the user the option to view their performance through several different camera styles, an option that puts an exclamation mark on the caliber of graphics, which the Xbox offers.

Many people put down the lack of time given for missions and the handling of the vehicles, in my eyes there is not a problem with either of the aforementioned aspects. You surely can not expect that from the first time you place the game in your Xbox that you will sail through mission after mission without problems. As with every game, you have to get used to the game before you can start to appreciate it in all its glory.
