Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions (Xbox Classics)

Compared to other driving games I’ve played, you have NO feel for the car. The fact that the controls are set up by someone totally unfamiliar with driving games does not help. Customize the game pad settings? Dream on!

I’d admit the graphics aren’t half bad, but you get the frame-by-frame feel of it. It also tends to get in the way of what you bought the game to actually do: Drive. I spent a lot of time untangling from things that I could not see until it was too late because something was blocking my view. Like trees, signs and so on. I wished for a view either higher from the ground or lower. The angle was perfectly wrong.

The missions were pointless. Save a dude that’s tied to the front of a huge truck by knocking the barrels loaded onto it. Recover printing plates from other vehicles by bumping into them. Drive through half the town in a car that handles like a broken brick and get bumped by other cars on the way.

It is quite possible that I have missed the entire point of the game as I gave it up after only a few hours of playing, but I’ll risk it.

I've had my eye on this title now for a little while and thought it was time to snap it up! It's a great little crash em up driving game, with the bulk of it made up of chasing other mad vehicles around some superbly detailed cities. It's fast, incredibly smooth with great effects, and shows off the XBOX's capabilities well. The missions are varied (some of them involve taking photos!), and on the whole it plays like a mix of Burnout and Crazy Taxi. The game is a little short though, but at this price it still represents good value for money. There are a good variety of vehicles on offer, culminating in a very cool "Back to the future" style Delorean which is great fun to drive. The difficulty curve is set about right, though some missions are tougher than others. You may find the tight time limits a bit of a pain on some missions. All in all, a great showcase title for the XBOX. Show it to your mates!!
