Amazon.co.uk Review
Bringing familiar faces and locations from the hit film, EA's tie-in game The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King could be easily written off at first glance as a simple cash-in. It's therefore a very pleasant surprise to find such an addictive and high quality game nestling at the heart of it all.

The developers have, as with the enjoyable Two Towers tie-in, opted for a beat-'em-up in the style of old classics such as Golden Axe. It proves to be a wise choice. Seamlessly incorporating some of the finest cinematic moments from the film, the game is a frenetic, rip-roaring and hugely entertaining affair. And surprisingly, it's a well-thought-through and highly challenging one too. The gameplay rewards the player willing to try things other than the same old moves, and through a series of combos and upgrades, it constantly pushes you onward. It's no one-weekend wonder either, with a healthy long-term challenge packed in.

Downers? A couple of levels don't quite reach the standards set by the game's best, and the toughness of the challenge may also deter more casual gamers. They'd be really missing out though, for not only is Return of the King one of the best movie tie-ins of recent times--certainly eclipsing the aforementioned Two Towers title--it's a tremendously enjoyable game in its own right. It's just a shame now that EA have run out of films and books, as we'd happily thirst for another instalment 12 months down the line. Best make the most of this one, then... --Simon Brew

this is a fun enough little game that will keep fans of the genre very happy, the graphics are great and the sound is absolutly brilliant the controls are quite good too but if like me your not a huge lord of the rings fan, it ultimately gets repetative quite quickly. you seem to endlessly slash up enemies with the same two buttons, but i dont want to sound too negative because i quite enjoyed this game, the difficulty level keeps you playing inorder to beat that level you cant get past. A must have for fans and worth a rent at least for anyone els.

This is probably the best game in my collection. I first saw it at a friends house on PC, then bought it fo my PS2. My PS2 broke (not due to the game) so i bought an Xbox. After owning an Xbox for about 10 minutes i decided i had to get this game again, so i did. The graphics are incredible and gameplay is smooth and looks cool. You can slice up orcs and uruk hai using incredible moves. Best game ever, full stop.

5 out of 5 stars Godly game buy this not Episode 3   July 14, 2005

This game is well above average and much better than the new star wars episode 3 game. i know the game is old but the amount of maoves that you learn is incredible. my favourite character is Legolas as he looks wicked and his accuracy with the bow is unbelievable. once you have completed the game you can play any level with any character which is wicked i like doing the gate level with legolas. the acting is unmatched and i love this game. the graphics are also sound and there is a free flowing element to the gameplay. the co-op is also good with two people being able to tackle any level together with any two characters. a highly recommended game and one i hope you buy over the new star wars.

this game is very good. i got it from a bet with my friend and when i got it i didn't regreat. I was completely adicted and couldn''y stop. but when i finished it completely and barely touched it since. i finished it very quickly: it's too short
The gameplay and graphics are good but the view isn't that good, especially in co-op. there is one screen so when the two players are far apart you can barely see anything. the graphics lose a bit of their valu because of this, there are a few glinthes where you can barely see anything.
you can play as nine important caracters from the film including three secret ones. the missions folow the end of the two towers and the story line of the third film the return of the king. there are a few boses like the witch king and sheba. but the game is too short
What is annoying is the absence of four players and xbox live. i know playing with four players on one screen on this game looks kind of booring but they could have put something with xbox live . LAZY. something where the missions are very hard and you play about 5 together against the computer and there are lots of enemies .
in conclusion this is a good game but too short and the graphics leave to desire. RENT THIS GAME DON'T BUY IT

2 out of 5 stars Short and boring!   February 16, 2004

Can be completed in less than 2 hours. Most of the game is made up of cut scenes from the movie, so if you really like it, like my friend Darren Fairfield then rent it! DON'T BUY IT!!!!!

Overall, it's pants!

Thank you!
