Expensive and Disapointing January 10, 2005 R. A. Levien (Lexington, MA USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Terrible in almost every way. Not HD (as claimed), ugly UI, overpriced and poor quality karaoke tracks, difficult to use, and poorly integrated with existing Windows networks. This is a product that cries out for seamless integration with your home music library which the current Xbox deliberately avoids. The few karaoke tracks that are available are overpriced and not what anyone really wants to play with anyway.
Excellent piece of kit, but why the hell XP only?! May 2, 2004 Rich (Sheffield, England) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I ordered Music Mixer as I needed a means of transferring my massive collection of LEGAL MP3 files off my PC to my Xbox. I was also interested in the Karaoke element as I could do it in the privacy of my home without making an arse of myself in the middle of a crowded pub.. At least in theory I could do all of the above, I had to send it back when I discovered that in order to do the main thing I bought it for, namely the music transferring, Windows XP was required on my PC, and I only have Windows 2000 Proffessional!I feel this lets the side down slightly as not everyone has a powerful enough PC to run XP so consequently not everyone who would otherwise buy this product will be able to use it to its full potential, so I'm knocking a star out of 5 off for that. Essentially though if you have XP, or an interest in singing to yourself via your Xbox, you can't do much better than get this, but if like me you only want it for MP3 transfers and don't have XP, don't bother, or save up and buy a copy of XP as well as this when you place your order.
The Absolute Worst Karaoke Party Ever !!! January 20, 2004 D. Finkenzeller (UK) 40 out of 45 found this review helpful
If you want a Karaoke machine look elsewhere - the supplied microphone is of poor quality (the Xbox Live headset is better). If you expect great visuals with your Karaoke device look elsewhere - the visuals behind the lyrics are extremely limited, I bought a cheap Karaoke CD+G machine many years ago and that beats the Xbox Music Mixer hands down. If you expect a generous selection of Karaoke songs look elsewhere - there are 15 Karaoke songs supplied. You can download more from Microsoft, but you are restricted; there are about 8-10 sets of 5 songs, you have to pay 5.99 per set, the selection is dire. If you expect to be able to download a large selection of Karaoke songs look elsewhere - as previously mentioned you must download them from the selection offered by Microsoft. They use their own format (KRK) which has a revenue earning product specific purchase key in it, so you won't be able to share your songs. If you have existing Karaoke software that you expect to use with your Xbox look elsewhere. The KRK format is not supported by anyone else (why would it be) and there is no software currently out there that will let you create your own Karaoke tracks. If you think maybe that you can live with the limitations of a poor selection of Karaoke tracks as you have lots of audio CDs you'd like to sing along too, well the "vocal stripping technology" (ha) is poor. Oh yeah it strips most of the vocals for you, but the backing music sounds like you are listening too it with your head underwater. Many audio tracks are almost completely "stripped" leaving you with a foggy interpretation of the original. Add to this the lack of on-screen lyrics and the appalling visuals and you might as well be singing in the bath or shower with your Walkman on! I wish I'd found more genuine reviews of this software before parting with my money. If this review is enough to convince one person (looking for some Karaoke fun) not to buy Xbox Music Mixer then I will at least of helped them. After all, the main purpose of anyone buying this product must surely be to have fun and enjoy yourself, and I honestly believe that you will be just as disappointed as I was.

The music mixer on X Box allows me to b the freestlye MC I am. If u wanna be a MC or DJ this is one of the best things to get your career on a good start. And did I mention I download music off the internet with this.

I a word this product is fantastic, it turns your Xbox into a Karaoke Machine, without having to spend huge amounts of money on buying one!! It strips the lyrics from any CD so that you can do Karaoke to the tune, only thing is it might start to disturb the neighbours after you've had a few parties!! I dont have Xbox Live yet, so I haven't used my console to download music I use my PC for that and transfer the files to the Xbox with the link lead provided.
