Manhunt is perhaps the most violent, amoral video game ever made and it's entirely unapologetic about it. Produced by the same team that created Grand Theft Auto, it sees you cast as a death row inmate reprieved from the chair to take part in a sick game run by a snuff movie producer. You're forced to sneak around a series of maze like levels killing "hunters" and SWAT team members as you go, using such unsavoury methods as suffocating them with a plastic bag and cutting their throats with a shard of glass. The game is primarily a stealth based title, using many of the same techniques as Metal Gear Solid--you shuffle around walls, peer round corners and use noise to attract and distract the enemy. This aspect of the game works extremely well thanks to the superb graphics and sound which create an intense level of tension, so that when you mistakenly knock into an abandoned shopping trolley and alert a hunter it's really quite terrifying. The combat, just like in GTA, is handled rather less well--but it's not anywhere bad enough to ruin the whole game. Indeed, in gameplay terms the only real fault with Manhunt is a lack of variety, with the game seemingly running out of new ideas well before the end. The true problem then is whether it's simply too depraved--but that's a decision you must make for yourself. Definitely not for under-18s. --David Jenkins

I don't give a flying circus whether anyone thinks that this is a bad game for whatever reason they do, whether it is because they say it is just a poor version of Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell etc. (which is totally unfair as it not trying to be those games in any way and the only thing that is similar is that this is a stealth game) or just too sick and trying to be as violent as possible just to create controversy or being too boring, whatever their reason, if they don't like the horror genre then they should simply avoid it as they can't possibly appreciate what makes this game so brilliant.
Although this is a violent game, the violence is a bonus, this does not make the game scary, it is the atmosphere, the synth soundtrack, the dark shadowy setting, claustrophobia, locations and repulsive characters (what crimes these repulsive characters have commited is left to your imagination) that make this game scary.
The easiest way to describe this game is like a mix of the film, The Running Man (the similarity being that you are being watched to entertain and have to kill or be killed, although this is not a gameshow but a snuff video), with the feeling of a 1980's horror video nasty and it is done brilliantly in a dark way.
Throughout the game you will hear a voice giving you hints, this voice is the person in control of the whole thing and is watching your every move, his name is Starkweather, a very nasty piece of work. I have to give a special mention here for the actor Brian Cox (the original Hannibal Lecter before Anthony Hopkins in the film Manhunter) who plays the voice of Starkweather, he plays this part magnificently and I think he definitely makes a difference to the atmosphere of this game. I always feel that Starkweather is a real character who is really watching my every move and this is credit to the acting talents of Brian Cox.
I know that this game is now (at the time of writing) almost four years old, but i'd like to say to anybody who likes the horror genre and as never got round to playing this underrated horror classic, try this and make your own judgement even if you only borrow it as in my opinion this is one of the best horror video games I have played.
One final comment is a question to all the people that preach about this game turning people into killers, what was the scapegoat in the days of Jack The Ripper?, answers on a postcard please.

Here ladies and gentlemen, we have one of the most sickest and violent games available to pick up. The only game other than GTA and The Warriors where they have a reason to ban it and it nearly was. The plot is this, a serial killer called James Earl Cash is sentenced to death and the public think it was successful. However a snuff director organized a set up so you wouldnt die....yet. You have to go through his maze of levels as he films you killing people. There are also some really cool twists which I dont want to spoil but Cash's family are tied up and you have to save at least 1 from getting killed violently. The scum you kill varies from hunters, wardogs, maniacs and cops. The weapons you get include baseball bats, machetes, hammers, sickles, knives, chainsaws and plenty of assault weapons like the M16 and sawed-off shotgun. Each melee weapon has 3 different stealth kills. I'll give you an example. At start of the game you get a plastic bag. Then you sneak up behind an unsuspecting victim and hold down the attack button. A curser comes up. The longer you wait the more violent the kill is. The 1st kill cash suffocates the victim. 2nd suffocates him while cash hits him in the face with his knee and the 3rd puts the bag over his face, punches him repeatedly and breaks his neck. You see they do get more violent. It would take way to long to go through them all. Graphics - 8/10 - Not brilliant but decent enough to enjoy. Rockstar have done a cool technique and make the picture kind of dotty and fuzzy which makes it feel darker and like a snuff video. The character models and settings look very good detail. Sound - 9/10 - Brilliant. The music is pretty creepy at times and when your spotted and your getting chased the music changes to more intense. The hunters say loads of different things and sometimes insult you heavily. This really puts Metal Gear Solid to shame as Manhunts AI has so far not been beaten. SFX of the kills sound really bloody and bone-crunching. Top notch. Realism - 10/10 - One of the most realistic games to date. 1 headshot and its all over. Someone pops you with a shotgun and you probably wont survive the shot. Hunters surround and gang up on you and makes it impossible as just in real life, its hard to beat about 3 on 1. Cash's face and arms get bloody and cut if your healths low. For the 1st time ever you are at the same advantage for survival as the bad guys. Thats why you have to use stealth. Gameplay - 9/10 - Dark, violent, gritty and damn right sick. Manhunt gets a good vote from me. Its not just violence. Like I said it has some twists and some strategy and puzzles makes this a little more than killing. Plus its creepy. Manhunt is defiently a horror game. You may get bored after a while but you'll defiently remmember this game as one of the most nastiest games ever made. Pick this up for and you'll get a dark, survival horror game that puts Metal Gear Solid to shame.

Brutal , gory , murder , bloody , sick , and we love it!!!
Manhunt is one of the most violent games ever made , developed by our heroes rockstar it has all the right touches.
Personally i hate people who are against violent games who believe that they were influenced like games such as these , but if you ask me if they are stupid enough to murder someone then obviously they're gone in the head and they were gonna do it sooner or later anyway. I have nearly all of the violent games and they provide the best entertainment and at no stage have i thought "wouldn't it be cool to murder someone".
so get your credit card order this game and start murdering gang members you won't regret it guarranteed.

No hanging about, straight into the horror and action. You delve into the world of the sick and twisted. The game only gets sicker and better as you go on. This game has the feel of two rolled into one. First become engulfed in your dark surroundings and the evil personas you must dismember. Then enter the so called real world to silently and joyfuly execute the police and professional killers out for your blood. Only one pig of an acception to this (you will find out). The graphics aren't amazing, but that in no way brings the game down. The setup and game play has a Max Payne feel to it, so the game play is absolutley peng. The stratergy guide (although for PS2) still is worth purchasing as it helps wonders.
Lock the doors, draw the curtains and embrace the dark.
Remember, "it's only a game!"

For the first couple of levels I thought it was great, the cold blooded brutality was like none i had ever seen in any other game, my heart was consantly thumping because I didn't know what the hell was going to happen next. After a while though, it just got boring. Really boring. Its just the same thing throughout the whole game, just sneaking around killing people. The story line is kind of thin, but the game itself is a great stress reliver if you're into that kind of thing.
