The original Halo was one of that rare breed of games that was so compelling it persuaded millions of people to go out and buy a new console just to play it. Without Halo the Xbox would probably have failed instantly, which gives this long awaited sequel an incredible amount to live up to. So far relatively little has been seen of the game but what has been revealed seems to surpass the original with startling ease.Widely regarded as the best first-person shoot-'em-up ever made for a home console, Halo 2 follows in its forebear's footsteps with a perfect blend of single and multiplayer action. The former offers far more variety than the first game as the battle is brought to Earth and the incredible advances in the game's AI, as well as just its graphics, become immediately obvious. There are now a lot more friendly troops to help you out and the evil Covenant invaders have become even more organised and intelligent. In the all-important multiplayer mode, the most significant change is that you can now play the game online on Xbox Live against anyone in the world. This is the feature fans have been clamouring for and it's supplemented by new gameplay features such as the ability to steal vehicles, man fixed gun emplacements and play as the bad guys. If you don't yet own an Xbox, Halo 2 is all the reason you need to change that.—Harrison Dent

 Mastering Halo 2 took me nearly a year (of not constant gaming, but a considerable amount) July 7, 2008

I just completed this game on 'legendary' a few weeks ago. Truth of the matter is that I was given an Xbox by a uni mate about a year ago with about 20 games (Halo 1, not being one of them sadly)... I only ever really played Halo 2...
My housemates would always say, "mate you've completed it on Normal, why bother with hard or legendary?". My answer to them was "why do we bother increasing the difficulty on PES or Fifa cus we're thrashing teams".
Now I'm not a religious gamer, but in response to other reviews on this game, it truly is for life. As I got better, I enjoyed it in different ways. Legendary was the most frustrating (the first level on the space station easily the hardest, with special reference to the two rooms where you have to 'repel covenant borders', I was stuck for weeks on that!), but at the same time, the most rewarding. I would never have got close to completing it if it wasn't for new checkpoints being every few yards... If you're thinking of getting an xbox cheap, I would say go for it... Don't bother with the countless other games, in my experience they were all crap! Make sure you get Halo and Halo 2... And don't just play it, master it... it's the most satisfying feeling a gamer can get.

Halo 2 is a very concise, well designed game. The story follows on very well from the original Halo to the extent that cutscenes, dialogue and plot twists are one of the most captivating parts of the game. The gameplay has been altered and upgraded slightly, dual wielding is now an option and certain aspects of the shield recharge/health and other spartan features have been tweaked or changed. The game is also Xbox live compatible with great multiplayer.
Halo 2 is a very good follow up to Halo: Combat Evolved. If you've yet to play this game and enjoy first person shooters then it's worth playing and it would be a good idea to catch up on the plot before Halo 3.

This game feels a lot more epic than halo one. The map designs are pretty much flawless and online is great. However, the problem with the annoying plasma-farting covenant weapons remains. GIVE ME MORE AMMO FOR THE REAL GUNS!

This game is frankly the best FPS shooter on any system - Fact. Halo was groundbreaking this takes it to the next level.
Again your the masterchief - 1 metric ton, 7ft tall test-tube built fighting machine. A sign of the earths might, the very best there is in tactical/fighting methods, the last of the Spartan's ( see Halo Clone Wars on Youtube).
Again alien masses are rising and attacking earth and all it stands for, and its upto you masterchief to turn the tide.
The first level shows much of what we loved from Halo, The A.I again is brilliantly adaptive to the level of person playing. this time 2 handed fighting available and the bigger range of vehicles you can drive.
Brilliant multiplayer and a story that only lets you down right at the end..again the infamous legendary difficulty will take you a while - with a few secret areas to find.
If you've played Halo or maybe not - know this - Its got one of the best soundtracks on any game and believe me this makes a huge difference in a game. The FMV's are again beautiful with the slight humour and love the designers had in making this game show through easily.
This is a must simple as- and its fairly cheap at the minute so theres no excuse, come on how many times have we paid full price for a completely rubbish game. Play the first level, if possible put the thing through an AMP and turn it up loud, and be amazed.
You'll know what I mean when you get to the point in the first 30mins ...when 'where you going?' ...'I'm going to give them back their bomb' that this is a true classic.... no wonder this shifted 2.5 million copies.

Halo 2 is a classic no question,its one of games that define a
system.
And the xbox is defined by this masterpiece, i strongly doubt the
ps2 or gamecube or even the Wii could run this game.
What works is the gameplay pick up or drop any weapons, hectic
action, intelligent enemies almost with their own personalities.
Huge alien worlds,acclaimed online multiplayer good tank and
vehicle sections.
Some say the campaign is too short but i have played shorter games.
Its just that this game leaves you wanting more, its that good.
Halo 2 sold millions of xboxs alone, and i have no doubt that
halo 3 will do the same for the xbox360.
