Amazon.co.uk Review Spyro is a cute purple dragon in a bit of a pickle. Each of Spyro's dragon friends has fallen victim to the nefarious Gnasty Gnorc, who has turned them into crystals. Accompanied by Sparx the dragonfly, Spyro sets out to free his buddies, while collecting gems and dragon eggs. Sparx also serves as Spyro's health-o-meter, glowing gold when Spyro is healthy and turning dusky green as he tires. To boost his energy, Spryo can blast docile creatures with fire, turning them into butterflies, which Sparx transforms into much-needed fuel. This title has bright graphics in six well-developed worlds, each with several subworlds, including bogs, deserts and ice worlds. Unlike some action games, in Spyro the Dragon the enemies are more fun than frightening. In the Peace Keepers world, for example, Spyro must burn down the monster soldiers' tent, sending one of the minions running out, quaking with fear or, if you're lucky, dropping his drawers and shooting a moon. Spyro's movements (fire breathing, gliding, jumping and climbing) require entry-level gaming skills. For this reason, Spyro the Dragon is an excellent title for youngsters or less experienced players, who want to play without having to master complex movement combinations. --Kasty Thomas Pros: - Large worlds provide hours of game playing
- Variety of scenarios
- Engaging graphics
Cons: - Low game skill requirements may prove less challenging for expert players

Addicting. November 17, 2007 crazykat (staffordshire) Like spyro 2, addicting! However i found spyro 2 a better and more friendlier game than this. Good that they're both different. I'll still rate this four stars though as it is a good game.
A Must For All Gamers October 8, 2007 Sarah Wood (England) This was the first game i played on the playstation 1 and loved every minute of it and the original Spyro's are way better then the newer versions on sale today....mainly because i find the newer versions too easy and sometimes boring. I recently dusted off my playstation and started playing this game again, although i find it much easier to play now (my dad no longer having to help me to glide) i still love it and thats the beauty of this game its never boring. This is game for all the family, it's fun, easy for younger players and good fun for more experienced gamers.
The Cute Little Dragon Is Ready To Toast His Minions! July 8, 2006 Mrs. Dawnc Alexandre (Jersey (CI)) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My younger brother got this game along with his Playstation 1 at the time when this game was just released (1998). I already experienced a little bit of the game since I had fiddles on the demo version of it and I, at that time was desperate to play the real edition of Spyro The Dragon! Technically, saying so, on days when my brother wasn't around I was occasionally taking the game and playing it on my Playstation 1 and then when I was finished with it, I placed the game back in it's original position where it originally was, but he knew that I was stealing it for a quick play anyhow! Eventually, my brother decided to sell the game to me, so I bought it! I finished the game a good old few times, but it was placed in my CD wallet for a good old period of time. Now, going back to the Playstation 1 world, I popped on this classical game and finished it in under a week! Spyro The Dragon is a game in which both boys and girls would be interested in playing. Not because of the structure and the adventures, but most probably the graphics and for the fact that you're playing as a little young dragon (whom most probably whom be at least 6 years of age). And so the story goes along as you were having a peaceful time back in the Dragon Lands alongside the other adult dragons! That is, until a villain who lives in Gnasty Land, whom is codenamed Gnasty Gnorc, used his magical sceptre and froze all of the adult dragons inside a crystal force shell. Because of the fact that Spyro was small in size, the ice attackes dodged him allowing Spyro to escape and find his fellow dragons and take out Gnasty Gnorc! There will be a whole adventure out there for you and Spyro to take on in order to release Spyro's Dragon Mates and Gnasty Gnorc! You won't be walking on foot forever!! Oh No! If you wish for success, you've got to use those little wings and fly like the birds and the bees as well as charging like the bull, and toasting enemies with your flame attack like... hmmm... dragons of course! My Personal Gaming Score: 9.5/10: Not To Shabby, Not To Evil, But Very Good My Wish: I'd like to see Sony designing a Playstation 2 game, which has all of the original Spyro The Dragon games in one pack (Spyro 1, Spyro 2, Spyro 3 etc)! Final Comments: Overall, Spyro The Dragon is a perfect game for a perfect console! Despite it has graphics, which many people wouldn't fancy anymore, it has made me proud when I was a young lad and these types of graphical devises were after all, the generation at that time! for a 1990s game its not bad August 6, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is great for beginer gamesrs though some expert gamers may find it easy. it has Graphics that are unriviled by anything from its time.
Great game!! July 21, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a game that redefines interest in the platformer genre. Spyro must free his dragon buddies who were crystallized by Gnasty Gnorc. He takes his best buddy Sparx, a dragonfly, to rescue the dragons and defeat Gnasty Gnorc. The graphics and sound are AMAZING. Defining visuals, coupled with relaxing music and sound. This has been ignored by some because of the "kiddy" image. If you fear that, know that you can burn stuff! Get this game wherever possible!
