It's Not All Bad! July 1, 2008 Shane Smith 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading several bad reviews for Civ IV i thought i should write my own. So okay, i run the game on my old iMac G5 and i have no problems, sure it's a little slow at times but when you have an old machine you have to expect that. If you have an Intel powered mac you're in a much better position to play this game, but if not like me, tinker with the settings and you should get it to work fine. My machine is by no means blazing fast. The game itself is excellent. Yes, it is a bit easier than Civ III, but played on a harder level it will balance out. There is a bit more to the game than Civ III, a bigger learning curve, but when you come to grips with that you'll appreciate the extra bit of depth to the game. It is an excellent game. Patches have been released, and so too have expansion packs. There's no reason not to buy this game.
Forget about how the damn thing runs!! April 14, 2008 Mr. R. J. Howarth (Plymouth) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It may or may not work on your system but that doesn't really matter, because it is the worst civilisation game ever made. It is unbelievably easy. I think it has been designed for 6 year olds. I remember the original when i was a young teenager and I had work hard to win, I played IV and was so disappointed. I wanted a challenge and ended up with the telly tubbies version of conquer the world. Don't get me wrong it looks good. It has a few more diplomatic and gaming extras such as religion. But I wasn't overly impressed. I guess i'll be sticking with Civ 3 for now unitl they produce a challenging game.
Excellent March 26, 2008 D. E. Lip (UK) I bought this for the PC when it came out and spent many weeks playing, and when I bought my iMac I decided to buy it again. An excellent port. However, do go to the Aspyr website and install the patch before playing. I would recommend adding the Warlords expansion pack. I've run the game on 1GB of memory and it works fine. 2GB makes it run even smoother. A few friends play this game and find it just as addictive as I do. For those who don't think this is an upgrade on Civ 3 probably don't understand the importance of the new civics in addition to the government type e.g. religion, economy etc. So if you're an addict to the previous versions, you'll quickly get addicted to this one. But remember to learn the new features of the game; it's very important. Oh, and read the minimum requirements before buying.
Hooked ... as good as on the pc February 16, 2007 Thomas Moore (London, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I liked CivII and when i bought a mac looked around for a sure fire game that woud play on the mac - this was it. It does have some technical problems though - on my iMac it works fine - but on my macbook (not as powerful but above the specs required) it has problems after a few hours of gameplay. Nothing that cant be sorted out though with a quick restart. if you like strategy and have a lot of time on your hands then this is a great game for u
I like it.... November 18, 2006 VLADIMIR NOVAK (GB..originally Slovakia) 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
When I was buying this game I was not sure how that will work. I have G4 powerbook 1.67GHz with 128MB Graphic card and 512MB DDR2 RAM... Yes I was running demo before I bought it, but demo is just demo, and demo runs faster than full game. So when I ran game first time, it was horrible, music not working propely and everything was too slow. But than I downloaded update from aspyr webside and installed it, and it is working much better.Yeah game has minimum requirements for mac G5 or Intel chipset officialy, but many people play that game on G4.Maybe it is quite slow and all settings I have set on minimum, but working(of course I have played just medium size worlds with 7 civilization and when i have 5 or more towns and when is modern era it is very slow)...Anyway I am looking for 1GB Ram memory so it will be more fast for my powerbook G4,hopefully...That for owners of the same type of powerbook like me: It si working!!!....About game: It is Civilization so what more to say.Who has played any civilization before, knows it very original game and IV is going in good way...And who hasn't played? So try it and you will see...
