Amazon.co.uk Review
Three seasons into Supernatural and brothers Sam and Dean Winchester are still attracting trouble. For the pair have a talent for battling the kind of spirits and creatures that are best kept locked away in nightmares--and it's fair to say their journey has taken its toll on them.

As we join them in the third season of Supernatural, their travels and adventures take in a mixture of increasingly intriguing threats and foes. Among the highlights is a man who has become trapped within his own mind, the day that Sam continually has to live over and over again (Groundhog Day style) and a sinister threat to Dean that underpins much of the series. Not forgetting a Christmas episode with a bit of a different feel to it than your usual festive special...

While the series was shortened a little due to the writers' strike that was ongoing in America while it was being made, the sixteen episodes in this Supernatural boxset nonetheless offer ample entertainment. Cleverly weaving together action, comedy and horror, it builds and improves on the second season, and while it may rush things a little come the finale, it's still a terrific and underrated programme. Here's looking forward to season four. --Jon Foster

3 out of 5 stars Bizarre but still enjoyable.   October 1, 2008
Mr. D. J. Sutton (reader-review)
when i first watched the third series of supernatural i hated it. I thought the show had practically destroyed itself with it's over the top, rediculous storylines, stupid humour and far too much gore! Indeed i was watching a different show, compared to the first two seasons, which i loved. However as a true supernatural fan i had to purchase this box set as towards the end it did pick up and the ending was fantastic. Boy am i glad i did! Watching it a second time i found the episodes far better. I just had to except the fact that the show had changed. Once you except the gore, silly humour and far fetched stories you find yourself being entertained. I had also forgot how the relationship between the Winchesters was tested and the emotion they both went through was rather intense. There are some really good episodes here and i for one like the addition of Bella and Ruby. Of course there are some weak spots, such as 'supenratural christmas' and 'ghostfacers'. You have to sit threw it cringing and mumbling to yourself - 'what were they thinking?'. The show has lost its edge a little and does get a bit stupid, but if you look past these points there are some really good moments here, especially towards the end where the show really beggins to improve. The truth is you will be a little dissapointed to begin with, but the more you watch the season the more you'll come to love it. You just have to leave all logic as well as your brain at the door on this one. It's certainly not brilliant, but's it deffinately worth the purchase. Either way it still remains a very underated show and should be given more credit. If you have yet to seen supernatural by the first two seasons first and before you settle down for this one be prepared for the changes. If your an avid supernatural fan like me you will probably be satisfied enough with this - i know i was!

5 out of 5 stars I love love love this show and it's back for season 4!   September 20, 2008

I have both season 1 & 2 already i absolutely love the show and get withdrawal symptoms in between seasons so the dvd is a great fix. Usually has good extras, i didn't think the extras were as good as usual on this dvd as the previous two but with the writers strike etc it will have affected filming and probably all the production delays etc meant less time to mess about on set and get extras for the dvd. The price is excellent, easily a bargin. Kripke, singer, jared, jensen the whole team should be proud i'm not an avid tv watcher but the show keeps me guessing and anticipating every week. I'm excited now season 4 has started in america get the dvds all of them and get addicted to supernatural you'll love it i promise you!

3 out of 5 stars Supernatural series 3   September 15, 2008

We had waited since May for our copy of season 3 of Supernatural. We had loved seasons 1 & 2; rewatching episodes several times and still enjoying them immensely. Season's 1 finale had me dashing out to buy season 2!

Season 3 hasn't had the same impact. Much as Jenson and Jared are still pleasing on the eye; the story lines have become predicatable and aren't as scary as normal. The humour in the episodes is good but I feel the plot lines are now being played for laughs.

Overall verdict : entertaining but not as good as the first two :)

4 out of 5 stars Simply Super   September 11, 2008

Supernatural season 3 carries on in much the same way as the previous two seasons, and I, for the most part, loved it. The main disappointment would be that there's only 16 episodes (obviously not their fault), so by the time you get to the last episode, the general feeling is, "Is that it?" And now I'm waiting for season 4!

Season 3 introduces two female characters, that have spawned intensive debate and hatred from many fans. However I did not find the elusive Bela and demon Ruby that bad, in fact, I didn't mind them at all. I don't think they dominate the show, as many have said, in fact most of the time they just pop up and then go, leaving the Winchester boys with the most show time. Both Sam and Dean are left to deal with the predicament they were left in last season, and they both do so typically in character, Dean quite humourously, making the most of what he has left and Sam, quite desperately trying to find a way to save his brother. I did love the character development, even if Sam seemed a bit angry sometimes.

Favourite episodes include:
Bad day at black rock- which offers a sweet and funny side to Sam, who finds himself with very, very bad luck.

A Very Supernatural Christmas- which shows the Winchester boys when young, and I found the evil characters hysterical!

Mystery Spot- Was probably my favourite episode. It was by far the funniest episode (having me laugh as hard as I did in Tall Tales, my favourite from season 2), and was very reminiscent of the film Final Destination. They definitely found very creative ways of having Dean die, although at the end it makes your heart ache, because you're left seeing what could be if Dean does go to hell.

Jus in Bello- was another of my favourites as it was a simple episode, but I loved the ethics involved in it. I also love the change of direction of Agent Henriksen's attitude towards the boys, and wondered why it hadn't happened sooner!

Overall, season 3 offers more top quality, high notch, compelling viewing, with superb acting from the boys and strong storylines, although in my opinion season 2 had many more "excellent" episodes. It isn't as scary as it could be, as someone pointed out, but I don't think it had to be, as there was something more important to focus on.

Included in the special features is: a gag reel, commentaries, a featurette on the Impala and special effects, but no interviews or commentaries of the cast, which is disappointing. Although my friend from thr US says hers is the same, so we Brits haven't been cheated again this time.

5 out of 5 stars It gets better and better   September 5, 2008

Let me start out by saying: I can't possibly say anything negative about this season nor this series.
It has a brilliant main plot with new seasonending-leadups every year which always keeps it fresh and new. It also has great writers (especially Sera Gamble) and puts the old horrormyths to excellent use, such as Hellhounds, Vampires, Ghouls, Ghost, etc. But what really keeps me hooked to the show and on the edge of my seat during every episode is the excellent acting done, mainly, by Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles but much praise should also go to Jim Beaver (Bobby), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John W.), Lauren Cohan (Bela, though sadly she didn't make it into the fourth season), Samantha Ferris (Ellen), and Alona Tal (Jo). Thanks to great casting every season just gets better and better. Of course this is all beacause of series creator Eric Kripke and his great sense of filmmaking.
