Very reliable at such bargained price January 25, 2008 Richard Cop (Dartford, Kent) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It looks so smart with slim size cabinet and can fit anywhere so nicely. The 250GB HDD capacity just gives me peace of mind on storage capacity of recorded TV contents as I know that I could be able to store so many hours of contents into HDD section not having to worry about copying onto DVDs from time to time. Timer-recording has worked out well without having missed any single scheduled ones and copying from HDD to DVD has performed well. Nicely built-in connections such as two scarts in & out, Componnets, Audio and Video. Picture quality is excellent. I am 100% convinced that it must be a excellent choice in terms of price, quality, design etc. I have never seen any smart-looking branded recorders like this and they all look like bricks compared to this.
The best thing I have ever bought January 8, 2008 Outta Stace (Manchester, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I came across Ellion when I was looking for an HD/DVD recorder. The leading makes were too expensive and the Ellion was the right price, had the required functions - a big hard drive capacity, numerous recording facilities, timeslip etc - and looked great. I've had one for around 18 months and I wouldn't be without it. At first, I started using the timeslip function regularly, until a friend who bought one on my recommendation told me that you can watch a 'live' recording from the start. This meant that you were watching something while it was recording and it was permanently stored on the hard drive, unlike timeslip, which merely stores the programme in a temporary cache. I once accidentally hit the stop button on the remote while watching a timeslip recording and lost it forever. Remember, timeslip enables you to use pause or rewind/fast forward, but not stop; that literally erases the recording. By recording conventionally, the programme is always on the hard drive. It just takes a while to figure it out. Otherwise, the Ellion is a seriously brilliant piece of kit. Great looks, great functions, great price. For a manufacturer that isn't one of the 'big boys' they deserve a lot of credit.
Can't Get Past The Noise!! July 12, 2007 Riz (UK) I bought this to replace an LG DVD player (thought it was about time I bought myself a DVD recorder!) This Ellion recorder really does look stunning - it's slim and super sleek. It seems to have a lot of good functionality for the price but it's just too noisy - when you have a disc inside all you can hear is the noice of the player. If you don't mind putting up with this then it's worth buying (it does look pretty...), otherwise give it a miss!

I've had the box for 6 months and the hard disk drive fails several times a week and this often stops the DVD from working; sometimes it also stops the physical buttons from working too & I have to unplug it from the wall to turn it off. Annoyingly it always boots from the DVD and I can't find a way to stop this, so make sure you never leave any DVDs in the machine after use or you have to wait a minute or two for it to load up during this time I get white noise since you can't change the source during the boot up sequence. Also you can't specify the start-up source, so once the box has loaded I have to press the source button five times to skip through the options until I reach scart (you would have thought that scart would be near the top of the list for sources - but alas, no). The lip-sync is often out for periods of a recording, but it soon syncs up again and I only record on the lowest quality so this could be the issue. On a positive note, the pause live TV function is great and it stores hours and hours and hours of recordings on the HDD (but this is only if you get the chance to watch them before the HDD corrupts). The copying function from HDD to DVD is brilliant, though it would be good to copy multiple items into one chapter on the DVD. It is also an excellent price and looks really nice.

We bought this item in September 2006 and it worked fine. 9 months later it has stopped working. The product comes with a 12 month guarantee. Ellion seem to've contracted a company called Goodies for warranty servicing. Like any product warranty this one offers customers 'specific legal rights. Goodies claim Ellion no longer contract them to look after warranty claims - a decision that was taken on 31st December 2006. They (Goodies) advised us to make a claim through Amazon. We've tried to contact Amazon who won't take any returns unless within 30 days of purchase. Won't allow the return of any goods in person. Offer no details on their web site of how to take the warranty claim further. Next step - TRADING STANDARDS - to find out how to exercise my legal rights under the terms of the original warranty supplied with the product.
