Good Price For 25 Coasters May 1, 2008 N. Wilkins (Cornwall, England) Using these discs to record video is not a good idea. When playing back the video, all i got was unknown meaning that i could not watch what i recorded. I recommend going for either the maxell or verbatim brand as i have not had any problems so far. Basically these discs are used as only frisbee's and coasters with the occasional one that works only once.
Avoid this product August 1, 2007 Manu_ad_ferrum (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I opened the pack last week. After the first three discs failed, I tried to initialise all of them. Seventeen failed, leaving me with eight useable discs at a cost of nearly 1-50 each, more than three times the purchase price. This product should be avoided by everybody with an interest in getting good value for money. It's a pity there's no no-star rating.
These have a poor reputation, but don't judge blank media by Brand name only. July 23, 2007 carnivalist (London UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Imation discs are supposedly looked down on by blank media cognoscenti, so I would avoid these, unless you actually need coasters or mini frisbees. I think these are made by one of the poorer factories - A CMC magnetics plant I believe (I'm not sure in which country). Unfortunately, I can't see any information about the media code (which identifies who made the disc using which dye) or at least the country of manufacture. Brand name in itself is often meaningless. It's fairly common for the same brand/product line to be made in different countries by different manufacturers using different dyes - they are effectively different products, with all that entails for burn quality and longevity, even though the packaging often looks identical, except for the country of origin printed on it. For example if Imation ever switch DVD+R production to Taiyo Yuden in Japan with dye of Media code TY03, these would effectively be a completely different product and I would be buying them like there was no tomorrow. (I use this as an example as I'm not as familiar with the best DVD-R manufacturers) I wish Amazon would give the Media Code and/or the country of origin - the latter is of less value on it's own, but at least it's printed on the packaging.
Can't get these to work -avoid them January 5, 2007 Jono the lizard (FARNHAM, Surrey, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought some of these on the Imation (3M) name but I cannot get them to work at all. It may be poor maufacture or possibly that they cannot reach the 4x as advertised. I will stick to Verbatim and regret trying to save a few pennies.
Not really re-writable September 5, 2006 O. Kan 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
I have tried 6 out of the 25 now and the same thing happened. Formatting with InCD4 - fine. First time writing - fine and straight after reading okay. A few days later, the data can not be read. The media were stored in the dark at a cool dry cupboard. Then I tried to retrieve data from the other 4 which I have recorded holiday snaps (in twin back-ups), I was shock to find out that one and half year worth of holiday snaps can not be retrived. Definitely not good re-writable media. Something wrong with the dye. I have used two as write-once and they were still readable but I don't think people would want to pay at least twice the price of re-writable media to use it as write-once media. I have also bought 10 DVD-RW media of the same band with the same results (see the other review). I have bought 10 Verbatim DVD+RW media years ago and I am still using it to back up data regularly and so far they are still okay.
