not suitable for windows 98 May 13, 2008 Anne 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this item after checking the specifications to make sure it was compatible with Windows 98 it was but when I received this item it would not work and after checking the e-manual it said it was compatible with windows 2000/xp and vista - does anyone know what I can do
Plug n play on Mac OS X, needs an Internet connection for XP and Vista April 9, 2008 MarkL (Nottingham, UK) I bought this in order to get copy protected software that is tied to a MAC address to run inside a VMWare Fusion virtual machine on a Mac. Mac OS X detected and installed the driver automatically, Windows XP took a bit longer (had to go online to get the drivers) but it was still pretty much plug n play. Vista was like XP, it had to go online to get the drivers, it took much longer than XP, but worked eventually. So if you have a Mac or have an internet connection, installation is simple. My copy protected software is now licensed to the MAC address of this adapter and works perfectly.
Excellent Product March 1, 2008 Mr. Terence P. Burns (Preston, England) I bought this product around one year ago as i required an extra LAN port on my PC, and did not want to buy a PCI version as i require the slots for other devices. After one year, this product still works great. I mainly use it to connect my XBox 360 to Live so it gets alot of use. My only quarm is that once or twice i have had to "jiggle" the wire to ensure connectivity Overall however, its a great product
Not for the novice February 4, 2008 numskull (Scunthorpe,UK) I ordered this as I thought it would be a neat alternative to using a network card. The item duly arrived in a box, but that was ALL I got, no instructions, no installation disc, nothing. I tried plugging it in to see if Windows would locate a suitable driver, but this did not work, so I then had to go find a driver/installation setup off the Internet. Did I mention that I bought this so that I could connect a computer to the Internet in the first place? After several unsuccessful attempts working blindly with the adapter and the downloaded files, I suddenly realised it had managed to install (more by luck than judgement) and I could connect the computer to the router. Once installed it seemed to work fine, until I noticed that it was causing rather a lot of instability with the USB2 card I installed (also by Max Value). It was less of a problem with the original USB1.1 ports but I decided in the end to install a network card that was not needed in another computer I have. This required no software setup and works much better. So unless you really can't do it, I would recommend installing a network card (they cost the same) into your computer instead.

i got this adapter as i was setting up wirless network, but the problem was my desktop didnt have a ethernet port so my modem was connected by usb. got this nifty thing and it worked like a treat with my netgear router that i jus bought previous. i can run both my computers runnin on the internet, have xbox live on the go and nintendo ds using wi-fi all at the same time. cant grumble at that, a tenner to fix a large problem with a simple converter like that, when some retailers are tryin to flog somethin exactly the same for double the price. good purchase
