Is It Worth It? April 10, 2008 A. Qureshi (Bradford, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) I must say that this product is possibly the cheapest item you can get in order to create a wireless network. I was pleased at first to find such an item compared to others around 100. I am quite computer literate and do know more then the average computer user and do know abit about networks. I spent from the moment I got it (9.00 am) all the way to midnight trying to get it to work. I followed the "supposedly" easy manual (which have mistakes and can confuse as they contradict each step) and still ended up with no connection. My isp would not register on the router properly. When I directly access the internet using laptop and modem, it works. But when the router comes in the isp is changed and does not work. I am still currently trying to find out how to make it work by accessing forums where people have similar problems. This product has made me mad and frustrated. I would only recommend this product if you are highly intellect about networks and have a lot of PATIENCE. I know this may contradict what other people say about it being easy, etc. but I would recommend looking at an alternative.
Cheap and Cheerful, but does the job. March 16, 2008 Dans Instituut (Tyne & Wear, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this just over three weeks ago as I wanted a cheap wireless router to connect to Virgin broadband and this bundle included a USB adapter as my desktop PC doesn't have a wireless card. The router is pretty straightforward to set up, the only problem I encountered was that, although the instructions say you can leave the host name blank, I could not get the IP address to be assigned automatically without entering 'VIRGIN MEDIA' as the host name. Any other problems I had were due to settings on my PCs or software firewall. It supports WPA2 security and has a range sufficient for my house; getting a good signal 15 meters away from the router through 3 walls. I was impressed that it uses UPnP to determine which port I use for torrents and seemed to forward it automatically. Overall it's cheap but it does the job for a small 2 PC home network.
