5 out of 5 stars Better than MX Revolution set; and no problems moving to ergonomic keyboard   September 14, 2008

Sometimes you buy something and you wonder how you ever lived without it. This is one of those things.

If you are using a keyboard that came with your computer, you don't know what you are missing. Buy a quality keyboard and mouse (any decent one) and give it a try - you won't look back.

I was dead set on buying the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX5500 Revolution (mouse & keyboard combination) instead, because I really wanted the MX Revolution mouse. However the MX Revolution mouse has two problems: firstly an in-built battery which (apparently - I have no personal experience of this) you cannot replace, and some people say has refused to recharge properly after a short period; and secondly (worst of all) no `document flip' feature.

On the contrary, the mouse that comes with the Wave keyboard takes user replaceable AA (not AAA) batteries, as does the keyboard; and has `document flip'.

* Document flip *: Document flip allows you to switch between screens/documents that are open unbelievably fast. While this might seem like a gimmick, it is not - it increases productivity massively. It is just so much faster than the old method. It is selected by depressing the central mouse scroll wheel.

As a bonus, when flipping, the default (for the document that you want to flip to) is the most recently opened document. This is entirely logical - statistically, the document you want to flip to is most likely to be the one last viewed. The net effect is that you find yourself switching between screens without selecting the screen you want to go into. It is almost as if the software knows the screen that you want. This increases productivity.

Document flip is available on the keyboard too, but having it on the mouse is far more efficient. To perform a copy & paste between documents takes a 4 key combination (copy, document flip, select document to flip to, paste) - easily performed with 2 keys on the mouse (document flip, select document to flip to) and 2 keys on the keyboard (copy, paste), but awkward if using three keys on the keyboard. (I programmed the two top left large silver keys on the keyboard to `copy' & `paste'). I never use document flip on the keyboard.

I would avoid the MX revolution mouse owing to the lack of document flip - it depends on how much you value having document flip on the mouse as well as on the keyboard.

* Tactile feedback of keys*: The tactile feedback from the keyboard and mouse is superb. I picked up my old mouse and keyboard and could not believe I ever used them - the key action is atrocious.

* Dust cover*: The keyboard comes with a solid, sturdy, clear plastic dust cover - it is extremely useful. It is actually the cover on the box - great idea.

* Transition to using an ergonomic keyboard*: I was originally put off the Wave keyboard as I thought I wouldn't get used to the ergonomic features - that I would keep hitting the wrong keys. Surprisingly this never happened - it seems that, although it is ergonomic, it is not that different to a standard keyboard regarding where the keys actually lie.

Buy a decent keyboard & mouse (any one) with document flip - you won't look back.

If you found this review useful, please say so - if people do, I might write reviews more often.

5 out of 5 stars Comfort and quality   July 9, 2008

As an owner of many Logitech products, ranging from speakers to gamepads, the will to buy the Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave for me was second nature.

First of all, the keyboard is unbelievably solid. It is also quite thin, despite the way it appears in many photos. The so-called 'Wave' is quite subtle, but compared to the Logitech Internet Navigator that I was using before it, it makes for a very satisfying typing session in front of your PC.

The package comes with the Wave keyboard, plus the Logitech LX8 cordless mouse. There is also a receiver (which acts as the receiver for both the mouse and the keyboard), plus a USB hub which sits on your desk for you to insert the receiver if you wish. I found it was not needed and placed the receiver directly behind the PC.

There are no gimmicks with this keyboard. You get a set of function keys across the top of the keyboard, which can be easily re-assigned with the SetPoint software. This includes a Media Center button, a PC button (which can turn your PC off - very useful), volume control, and more. It is also a perfect keyboard for a media center PC, with eject buttons, and more.

The Windows Flip button resides on the far left of the keyboard, and if you own Vista, it makes for a easier experience switching between programs. If you own Windows XP, the button takes over the usual "ALT-TAB" function.

With this keyboard, there is a clear emphasis on the quality and feel for the typing rather pace. However, the build and effort to make this keyboard work perfectly easily outweighs this issue.

The LX8 Cordless laser mouse that comes with the keyboard is a nimble device, which is frighteningly accurate, and does what you need to do with minimal fuss. There are two buttons, but that's it. I currently use the Logitech MX Revolution mouse, so I have no real need for this mouse, but it is more than adequate as a replacement.

The keyboard is perfectly organised and after a few uses, its 'wave' becomes second nature. The keys are very spongy upon touch, and makes no noise at all.

If you are looking for a keyboard that offers accuracy, comfort, and quality, then it is this one. The mouse however, should be regarded as bonus rather than something that enhances the experience using the combination.

1 out of 5 stars Key writing wore off within 2 months   July 9, 2008

10 months in there is no text at all on at least 8 of the keys with many others starting to fade. I was told that this was normal wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.

3 out of 5 stars Easy to install but not ergonomic enough   March 3, 2008

Both keyboard and mouse took absolutely no time at all to install and the whole process was very easy, even for a technospazz like myself. The mouse was a little too responsive to start with but that's adjustable, as are most of the features, buttons etc.

BUT the main reason I bought this keyboard is that I have RSI because I type a LOT! I did have a split keyboard but it's reached the end of its natural life. After reading the reviews for the wave keyboard, I thought this was the one for me. But it's really not and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with wrist or shoulder issues. Though I do like the fact that the keys are are different heights, the fact that the keyboard isn't split means your wrists are in a totally unnatural position. I've only been using it for a couple of hours this morning and my wrists are really quite sore.

The extra function keys are all great, but most keyboard these days have those anyway.

4 out of 5 stars logitec wireless slight problem   February 25, 2008

Received the cordless keyboard and mouse within two days, brilliant. The mouse was recognised instantly but took almost an hour to get the keyboard recognised even following the correct procedure, it kept telling me it did not recognise the batteries, so not a plug in and go. Had problems with the keys not recognising and missing letters out and was wondering if I had made a mistake ordering a cordless board. Removed the tranmitter and rebooted and so far have not had the problem back, hope it stays this way.
Saying that the board is very well constructed and solid , the mouse, 'laser' is brilliant and would recommend to anyone, get a laser mouse.
Thanks again to Amazon.
