ITS DEAD!! October 8, 2008 D. Bloodworth (England. U.K.) it died just over a year old what more can i say the worst netgear product i have ever brought.
totally unreliable a waste of money September 14, 2008 A. Johnson (Surrey, UK) I bought this to extend the wireless range inside my house and (using an existing an 834G in bridge mode) beyond to an office in the garden. The troubles started as soon as I powered up the Rangemax with an intermittent loss of the wireless connection. I've spent hours on the 'phone with their tech suport desk, carried out numerous factory resets, alternative settings etc. etc. With no success. The wireless function has now finally died and I'm due a replacement, judging by the other unfavourable reviews I'm not holding out much hope. In summary, if you feel like loosing your sanity buy one.
Excellent but not gd for range September 11, 2008 Tim (UK) this is an excellent router and is a must buy. however, mine is located downstairs where my computer is and i use this to connect to my ps3, which is upstairs. the range is poor as i only get 65% signal strength. this can be fixed by buying the "NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax NEXT Wireless-N Laptop Adapter" my problem is that i have no idea how to plug this in to this router does anybody know? please let me know here or by email, "mikeywestcott@yahoo.co.uk"
It could have been a great product! August 13, 2008 SylvanSurfer I must warn people not to buy this router if you have power problems. The first router I had arrived and the setting up was so simple and quick. It was the hub of my home network allowing me to share my computers and devices without complications. The performance was good in being a modem/router and wireless but there is achillies heal. It dont like power cuts and as I live in a rural place we seem to get a quite a few through out the year. The first time I experience it just didnt know what to do as it doesnt reset just acts dead. I unplug it and had to use an old modem as I need an internet connection at all times. After I finished what I was doing I decided to fiddle with it and it came back on. Unfortunely the next power cut kill the router as it made a high pitch sound. Give Netgear there due they were very helpful and sent me a replacement. The second unit was a little more robust, but it still acted dead after a power cut so I left it unplugged for a while then plug it and it rebooted and worked fine. I had this unit for about 9months, till about two weeks ago I had power cut and I had devil of a fiddle to get the unit to work/reboot itself up. In the end I did get it to go, unfortunetly another power cut happened and just made it act dead permanently. It is the first time I have ever experience this kind of problem with a modem/router, and I have own quite a few over the years. If I didnt have these power cuts I would have rated this as a 4/5 star product. Come-on Netgear why continue to make and sell a product that has this flaw in it. I have lost confidence in investing into another Netgear Router so BUYERS beware.
Good so far !!! August 12, 2008 H. Shorter (Milton keynes, UK) Got this today and setting it up was fairly simple. So far it has worked perfectly giving me a blazing 270Mbps. I had one drop out so far but that was the fault of the wireless adapter. Overall i am very pleased. Be warned, avoid updating the firmware as in my case it caused dropouts in connectivity. Once I downgraded the firmware it worked perfectly.
