disappointing May 30, 2007 Colin (Azerbaijan) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have to echo some of the other reviewers: - no quick scroll facility - no software disk - cannot increase pointer acceleration etc- I felt I was having to roll the ball excessively to get the pointer from one side of my screen to the other -no way to reprogram the buttons. -wheel sensors to clean - to be honest, for my taste it was not even particularly comfortable to use Overall a surprisingly disappointing product from Kensington - I bought this to use at home, having recently changed from a mouse to a trackball to alleviate RSI. I bought a Kensington "Expert" 4 button trackball for work, and bought this Orbit for home-use to save carrying the large "Expert" back and forth. Now I will but a second "Expert" for home. If you are looking for a basic trackball that looks quite stylish, then the Orbit is that and no more. But for a 5 star, flexible, extremely comfortable trackball check out the "Expert" - it really is the dog's back wheels, great functionality and optical sensors - jut a bit boring to look at - but hey! can't have everything .
Wife was impressed June 22, 2006 S. Edwards (Exeter. Devon.England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife found the normal mouse very hard to control, with the trackball she gets around the screen like a two year old. Spends hours on the net using her new toy. Maybe not such a good thing afterall ???
Too 'slippy' February 8, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Whilst this trackball is cheap (and feels it) is also difficult to use. unless you maintain pressure on the ball and track slowly it slips and you cannot control the mouse pointer. Not useful for someone with limited manual dexterity - one of the reasons for buying such a product.
Okay, but was hoping for better January 6, 2006 DaviesUK (London, England.) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I prefer trackballs, and had a Microsoft Trackball mouse for several years until it became too scratched to function properly. Bought this as a replacement. It's okay, but not great. There's no scroll facility that's easy to use, unlike the Microsoft (which is no longer available, or I would have just done a direct replacement) and you can't assign the buttons to anything except left and right click. It doesn't come with a software disc. Also, each sweep of the trackball doesn't take you very far, whereas with the Microsoft I could navigate round the whole page without taking my finger off the ball. Unfortunately there aren't alternatives.
Basic roller design lets it down. November 28, 2005 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This has good ergonomics and a simple two button design, but is badly let down by the use two rubber rollers for the ball movement detection. These clag up just like those old mice used to and the pointer often freezes on one axis. The resolution is also quite low, so on high screen resolutions you end up making a lot of movements to get from one end of the screen to the other. It's got a cute feature of a bright blue led shining through the ball when moved. Worked out of the box on both PC & Mac via USB connection.
