Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Apple Wireless Keyboard has been completely redesigned inside and out. It features an elegant ultra-thin anodized aluminum enclosure with low-profile keys that provide crisp responsive feel. It also has function keys for one-touch access to a variety of Mac features such as screen brightness volume eject play/pause fast-forward and rewind Expose and Dashboard. Its compact design fits on your lap or on even the most crowded desk. And its Bluetooth wireless technology lets you use it just about anywhere within 30 feet of your Mac. The keyboard automatically powers down when youre not using it and turns on instantly as soon as you start typing. This intelligent power management means youll get up to nine months of battery life based on average usage patterns. It also has an on/off switch for when youre away from your computer for a long time.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but...   October 17, 2008
Jonathan (Manchester, UK)
I bought the wireless version of this sleek aluminium keyboard as an upgrade with an Intel based iMac. On the plus side I like the appearance and the ability to stow the keyboard away after use. However I touch type and I am aware of a delay when typing. There is also a mixed response with certain keys - such as the caps lock and the wireless version lacks various useful keys such as a forward delete key. This means pressing two keys instead of one which is a nuisance.

After putting up with these annoying features for a few months I bought the cheaper wired version. It has an excellent response when touch typing and better functionality. Unless you are planning on typing from some distance away from the screen I would buy the wired version.

The other thing that applies to both keyboards is that they are very flat and lack a wrist support. This makes them look better, but I would recommend purchasing a wrist support if you intend to do a lot of typing.

5 out of 5 stars Great Keyboard   July 19, 2008

I've been an Apple user for years now, and i gave my old G4 iBook a good run before finally upgrading to an Intel Mac (iBook's still going, finally converted my parents to Apple!).

The Intel Mac shipped with a wired keyboard and mouse. Had i have known, i would have upgraded when purchasing. Because i have been using laptops for quite a while, using this keyboard is an easy transgression. I'm not fussed about having a seperate numeric keypad.

The bluetooth has never been a problem-the only thing i do suggest is when starting up the computer, if you have a password to type, start the keyboard up first! It's nice siting with the keyboard on my lap typing rather than leaning over a desk or something. And as with Apple stuff, it looks good, it performs well. Do i mind paying 50 from Apple for it? No, not really-now i've got the product i know that you get what you pay for, and this is no exception.

The only thing that i really need to change now is the mouse. I have a tray on my computer stand that slides out, which means the mouse now has to be plugged into the back of the Mac. The cables a little short for that-so my advice would be to get the wireless Mighty Mouse to go with it. I will be, but can't afford one just yet!

My advice? If you're having doubts, then push them to one side-it's a great bit of kit. 50 may be a tad expensive, but you know you're getting your money's worth with Apple. Throughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars I'm not a gud typist but this works for me   March 18, 2008
M. J. Hughes (N Wales UK)
I initially bought this to go with my MacBook / external monitor set-up because it is a nice quality keyboard that does NOT have a number pad - I have one of those desks with a pull out keyboard tray and it was just too narrow for a standard keyboard and mouse. It fulfils the purpose I bought it for really well, but the surprising thing is how well I can type on it - I type a lot at work but I am just a two finger hack. This keyboard is just the fastest thing I have ever found to type on - a definite aid to my productivity. It helps that it is such nice bit of engineering.

5 out of 5 stars Don't be put off by the price   February 13, 2008

I sit here across the room from my computer writing this very review from my Apple Bluetooth keyboard and it's working like a dream. I've had it a few days now and I have to say it is just brilliant.

First off the size: All the keys are the same size of those on a normal keyboard and they're spaced the same distance apart too, yet the device itself is tiny. It really is style of the highest quality.

Next up is the connectivity... perfect. I've not had to repair the connection once.

Finally the price: Worth every penny... that is if you use your computer in a way that it needs the highest quality of input devices, which this is.

A final couple of notes; I use Windows via Bootcamp on my Mac about 95% of the time and this review has been based on that, so if you want it for a Windows PC it should work just fine. It's worth noting there is no Print Screen Key which for my personal a use is a little annoying but the shortcut works just fine. A list of shortcuts can be found on the Apple website.

EDIT:

Since writing this review I experienced the same issues as one of the other reviewers, the caps lock freezed the keyboard when in Windows. Read the comments attatched to this review to find an easy way around this.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to type and pretty but..   February 11, 2008

This keyboard is very stylish and streamline, and it much smaller than a normal keyboard (since there is no keypad!) which, if you don't need, is handy for freeing up desk space. It connects well onto OSX every time, no problems there.

However it does seem to guzzle batteries in my opinion, I work with my mac every day and the three triple A's have to be replaced a lot more regularly than I had hoped. Also never hit the caps lock key if you are running Boot Camp! It causes the keyboard to freeze, the only way to fix it being to take out the batteries and put them back in again, and then wait for it to reconnect. Having read the previous review which states it works fine with it, I am wondering if it is just my bad luck, or just a dodgy system! Furthermore the keyboard obviously has no USB ports, unlike the wired model (however it or the wireless mighty mouse don't need them so six of one...)

Overall I would say if you are going to buy it just because it looks pretty and for the novelty of wireless (as I did) I would recommend getting a wired one!
