I shouldn't have Trust-ed them.... July 18, 2008 Neil Hallam (Derbyshire, UK) I bought these for my teenage son to use with his pc (he often plays music while he's online gaming, etc). I had a set of Logitech 2.1 speakers that I've had for a few years, and I'd always been very pleased with their performance. The bass was especially good, and the balance between the satellites and the sub was very good for music, DVD's and games - a really good all-round product. Given that they cost me around 15 about 4 years ago, I was well pleased. I'd wanted to buy another set of Logitech's this time around, but the one's I wanted were out of stock. So, based on the existing reviews, I plumped for this set from Trust instead of being patient and waiting for what I really wanted.... First impressions :- The speakers look pretty good, the brushed aluminium finish on the sub adds a touch of quality, although I can see that the shiny finish on the volume and bass knobs will probably wear off quite quickly. The blue lights around these knobs looks ok, not too bright. The satellites look good on the desktop, not too big and a nice fabric mesh to cover the front. First disappointment came before I'd even played anything through them. When the PC is off, but the speakers are left on, the sub hums. I've experienced this before, but only ever as a low volume hum which is barely audible after a while. These hum big time. No way you can leave the speakers on when not in use. Given that the power switch on the sub is on the back, it's not good. If the power switch had been positioned with the other knobs on the front, then ok. But you either have to reach around the back of the sub to switch it off, or around the back of the pc to pull the audio cable out. Not much of a choice there. Never had any hum from my Logitech's, so not pleased by this. You need to be aware of this when chosing where to site the sub. Maybe Trust could sell this as a Green feature to encourage owners to switch off instead of leaving on standby.... I was hoping that the sound quality would go some way to make up for this disappointment, but it was not to be. The whole sound is generally thin and tinny and lacking in real depth, even with the bass adjustment turned to the max on the sub. Played a variety of music ( e.g. Jamiroquai, Switchfoot, classic Genesis), none came over as well as my Logitech's. The blend was also poor - the absence of bass combined with the noticably thin sound from the satellites could be heard quite distinctly apart from the sub, even though the sub itself was also relatively thin sounding. For me, it was simply disappointing. These speakers may be ok for some, depending on the level of expectation. It's true that you're not going to get "real" hi-fi quality from a set costing as little as these but the Logitech's that I have gave me a benchmark which this Trust set fell a long way short of for me. I've left it with my son to make the decision over these as he will be using them, not me. If I'd bought them for my own use, I would be returning them and replacing them with Logitech's, even if I had to pay more than I'd initially wanted. You buy speakers to listen to audio through - if they don't do that to satisfaction then what's the point? As for Trust? Well, I wouldn't.....
Great quality sound May 4, 2008 Andrew (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought these speakers mainly because I wanted a subwoofer for better bass. Although the subwoofer is very good what I really like is the sound quality of the speakers, they really do make listening to songs on itunes a much more pleasurable experience! (Sounds like something from an advert) Overall very good. Only bad thing is that the sound knob thingys keep on giving me electric shocks!
Great value for 20 May 1, 2008 S. Fielding (Preston, UK) Decided on these rather than the Logitech X-230 mainly due to the complaints about the bass. Well I'm happy I did because for 20 these Trust speakers pack a punch. The one gripe I have is the sub-woofer hums slightly when no in use but plugged in. It may be because I have it positioned near to other electrical devices. Trust these speakers to impress!!
Nice little package March 19, 2008 TC (United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
For 20 these speakers really deliver. They look far more expensive than they are and the sound is very high quality. The high range is very clear and resonant and the bass is deep, solid and atmospheric. Mid-range isn't the best I've ever heard but not bad enough to really moan about. One thing that does annoy me is that you have no way of telling where you are with the bass dial except through guess work - there's no numbers or half way click. Still this is a minor gripe. If you're looking for a set of great value speakers that look the business and sound a lot better than they have any right to for the money, you can't beat this for 20. UPDATE - After a month the light fault mentioned by another reviewer has also developed in my speakers. There is a little bluelight that shows beneath the volume and bass dials. It has developed quite an annoying habit of flickering for no reason. The sound is unaffected.
Good quality and value for money March 13, 2008 Alison (Derbyshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am really pleased with this speaker set. The sub is about the size of a slim toaster and the two mini speakers are about the size of an average tub of margarine! They can't make toast though... The quality of sound is good; very clear with good bass from the sub. I would like a little more volume from the sub though, the bass isn't really loud enough for my tastes. Good value for money - recommended.
