Nice but problematic October 21, 2008 JonnyGunsUK (Manchester) I bought this printer after some research as I am trying to get good photo results, but keep costs down. I've always been a fan of Epson photo printers. My R300 prints are excellent and the printer has lots of setting options. However, the ink costs and wastage are an issue. My initial prints from the ESP5 were very good, with minimal tweaking required. However, I've been messing with the colourspace settings to use Adobe RGB, and the printer is now blasting out loads of ink. Once I sort out this problem the printer actually looks promising. It also uses pigment ink, which is normally only found on printers costing far more.
Kodak 5300 October 19, 2008 N. P. Smith (London UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this all in one as the pictures looked great. They do but everything else is rubbish. The normal print letters ect are dull and slow. Stick to pictures, Kodak.

After buing this printer it was faulty and after contacting kodak who took there time in responding/and could not give me a satisfactory answer to the fault.I am in the process of returning it for a refund, the printer was also 'noisy' disatisfied customer.

This printer uses the same print engine as the disgraceful Kodak 5300 and 5500. I work in a large store where we sell a lot of the biggest name brands. The 5300 was brought out a year ago and within my store it has acheived 25% returns just within the first year. Lexmark used to hold the crown as worst manufacturer reliability but Kodak has taken that crown easily. One of the problems extends from the photo printing process where a clear film is applied over the ink on the paper. When the ink runs out this film is still applied, then if this paper is re-used after the ink is re-filled the ink will not stick and a mess ensues. If you do buy a kodak and you run out of ink, do not attempt to re-use any paper twice. The problem above accounts for a large percentage of the returns, but the rest are a mixture of faults in a much higher ratio than any other manufacturer. Kodak should be applauded for their approach on ink prices, but it a shame they are made poorly. Nice looking printer as well. EDIT: Lol well in my store we power up and take sample pictures of the new products. Last night was the ESP5's turn. Started fine, printed test photo's good, went to scan and it swallowed 20 sheets and the A4 drive mechanism is knackered. The first ESP5 opened is faulty - GREAT start, but it looks like the same problems from the 5300 are going to exist.

i was considering gettting the epson the new epson stylus photo RX685 but at 166.00 no way and the inks are from 30.00 .. ive got a epson R300 printer excellent , but i needed a 3-in-1 printer/photocopier/scanner , ive got loads of photos i want added to my computer .. this kodak is excellent , i purchased it from the kodak website , it was just 10.00 dearer but i did not mind , plus i got extra ink , 6.99 for the black and i also purchased the kodak premium photo pack with a colour ink cartridge for 13.49 , the photo paper is 4x6 size and it comes in a pack of 135 ..so all in all including postage 24hr , i got it for less than the price of the epson RX685 .. the quality is excellent and the size is not to big and it has a little 3 inche colour display .. loads of features and loads of style and the price amazon are selling it at just makes it more nicer !! super 3-in-1 and such a great price from excellent kodak !! see u ..
