Worst printer I've ever had May 14, 2008 R. Klumb (West Yorkshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am joining the long list of negative reviews found not only here but also on amazon.com. This printer has caused me no end of problems specifically regarding the paper feed, but also the software (even though I managed to get it working under Vista, but again very complicated) and HP's customer service is no better. Keep your hands of this one. I am going to buy a new printer, but never again will I touch HP products.
Good for printing and copying but keeps coming up with error messages January 18, 2008 Milly Smith (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The printer was easy to set up straight from the box, it came with both colour and black and white cartridges which are easy to insert and a few sheets of 6 by 4 glossy hp paper. The quality of the printing is really good although there are occassionally a few streaks but not very often. The copying is really good and the speed at which it prints is fast compared to other printers i've used, up to 30 pages a minute in black and white and 24 in colour. It is good to be able to make copies without turning the computer on as there is a keybad built onto the printer with a copy menu plus a preview screen so you can see what your copy is going to look like. There are different ports for USB, xd, ms, cf and sd cards so you can print photos straight from camera or memory stick which is also useful. However, it might just be my computer but when i try to scan either from the computer or the built in keypad on the printer it keeps coming up with error messages so i haven't been able to try scanning yet. It also won't install properly which is probably why but it still prints and copies. It also comes up with error messages on my computer when i turn the printer on and when i try to turn the computer off it comes up with that End Now message saying it isn't responding which is annoying. The software is quite good if you're interested in editing and being creative with photos otherwise you might as well just use software you already have. The printer was good value when i bought it at around 50 or 60 but that was from Amazon and other sellers charge way more than its worth, over 200! The ink cartridges seem to run out quickly when i'm printing photos on glossy paper but i guess that happens with most printers. You can get decent deals for the cartridges from Amazon and Cartridge World with paper which is useful because i'm an art student and need to print off lots of photos. Another downside is that sometimes the printer jams. Once it chewed up the paper and i had to open it up to get it out and sometimes it starts to suck the paper back in so i have to keep an eye on it when its printing. Overall its a decent printer for prinitng fast, copying and colour photos but for the amount its charging at the moment you could probably get a way better and upgraded version.
Good printer, but cheaper from ebuyer September 4, 2007 Technogeek (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this all in one machine because A) It is networkable (I have a Netgear wireless router that it is connected to) B) It is Vista compatible, and C) It was cheaper than machines with a similar spec from the competition. Despite what other reviewers have said, it works under Windows Vista, (I know because I've tried it). The set up was straightforward, I went to the HP website and downloaded the Vista drivers as the note in the box says you should, although it would have been nice if HP had supplied a CD with them on, then followed the network setup instructions on their poster. It was a doddle. The printer takes a little while to warm up when you first switch it on, but after that scanning, copying and printing are very simple operations. You can scan to your PC from the printer using the printer's menus so you don't have to go to the PC after changing each document. There is a little colour display that shows the menus and you can print directly from memory card (SD, MMC etc.) if you want to. It also has a USB socket on the front for directly linking a digital camera. There is quite a lot of software supplied with the printer, but I installed the minimum (driver only). A few reviewers have mentioned problems with phantom paper jams, there is info on this on the HP website, but I myself have not had the problem despite using 4 by 6 inch photo paper, T-shirt transfers and A4 glossy paper. I haven't printed labels so can't comment on how easy it is, but if I did, I would do a test on plain paper first and adjust the document until this printed correctly before putting the label stationery in. According to the sales info there should be some free photo paper supplied with the printer - there wasn't with mine. Printing photos sometimes gives slightly odd colours, I would guess that using the optional photo cartridge instead of the standard tri-colour ink cartridge might help this. HP ink is very expensive, and the cartridges are quite small, but you can buy compatible cartridges from other manufacturers or get refills to cut down on the cost. On the whole I'm quite happy with the printer. I got it from Ebuyer because at the time of writing they are cheaper than Amazon.
Oh this is good May 23, 2007 PashDA (Leeds UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Worked, straight out of the box. Just like it should do. Yes there is a lot of software to install if you follow the HP installation route. But you can manually install with add printer options in Windows. Also support network printing from Linux. Like it.
Various problems May 17, 2007 Ms. R. Farwell (Norfolk, UK) 31 out of 33 found this review helpful
The print quality is excellent. I generally set it for fast normal, and this produces results that I am pleased with. I haven't been able to find anything else on the market that offers its combination of features - the combination of print, copying, scanning and memory card slot is most useful. It is a nice looking machine, and I very much like the little screen. It does have some downsides though. 1. The ink is very expensive (presumably because the machine is so cheap, HP are making their profits on the ink). So I don't use it to print my holiday photos. Cheap refills are hard to come by. 2. It doesn't accept varying weights of paper. You can't use it to print fabric, for example, or even fairly thin card. 3. It tends to jam when I try to print envelopes. 4. Clearing jams is unusually difficult compared to other printers I have used. 5. It doesn't conform with the computer settings for address labels. What you see on the screen and what actually prints are very different. 6. It has a ludicrous amount of software. I don't advise installing all of it! 7. It doesn't print footers. It simply won't print down far enough on the paper. HP support have been unable to help with this. I am a writer and need to be able to print footers, so have to use a b&w laser printer as well, just because of this problem. (The laser printer is also much faster for printing text.) NB. I use XP - I suspect this printer won't work with Vista. Overall, I recommend it because of the very good quality of the colour printing and its features, but you need to be aware of its problems before choosing it, as they may mean that it isn't suitable for everyone.
