Be careful of high running costs November 25, 2008 I. Vincent (Northumberland UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Epson PX700W can be fitted with compatible T080 series cartidges but when the lid is closed, printer claims not to recognise some of them. Without doing anything other than raise and lower the lid again, the printer selects a random number of other cartridges it is 'unable' to recognise'!!! Baffled? I was. Perhaps Epson have installed a 'stump up for our expensive ink cartridges or I won't work' feature but have not found this in the manual. My advice is wait until some 3rd party ink manufacturers catch up and make a truely compatible set of ink cartridges otherwise running costs will be high. In the meantime, I will use my old printer and likely ebay this black brick.
Fast, quality prints November 17, 2008 Mr. Vernon Turner 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Full credit to Amazon. The first printer received was faulty (it seized up even before the installation of the ink cartridges)Immediate refund from Amazon. I ordered another one. Works perfectly and produces outstanding quality prints of digital photographs. Still to be considered is how long the ink cartridges last. Probably not long. This is where printer manufacturers make the most money. Irritations with this printer? Complicated wifi set up. Eventually cost me 40 to get it installed wirelessly by an IT company. Even more irritating the lack of facility to print in black ink only for a simple text document. Otherwise a nice looking, up market printer with many features that you will probably never use.
Great print quality, terrible build, and beware! No compatible cartridges November 17, 2008 L. Callaghan (uk) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This really is a badly made product. Very thin plastic used to make the moveable parts (paper feed tray, pull-out paper receiving tray, scanner lid, cd/dvd tray) which makes one reluctant to touch it, never mind move it. Awkward set-up on mac-based wireless network (I'm very IT savvy and still had to contact customer support to get it to work). Mac drivers are poor. No way to print to a cd/dvd without going through the epson disklabel software, when a simple paper-tray option in the normal driver would do the job. Spooling more than one copy of a photo is giving me consistent 'paper feed jam' errors when this simply isn't the case. Printing one at a time works. ??????? Print quality is amazing, but don't expect to be producing prints at reasonable cost. I've tried two different kind of compatible cartridges and none of them work. I get a 'cartridge not recognised - reinstall' message which can't be overridden. Hopefully the 3rd-party manufacturers will sort this out soon, as I currently have a 170 black brick on my desk. 6 for an epson original cartridge? I'd rather put the printer in the bin. A manual feed slot would have been nice, and the paper tray has a tiny capacity. Anything else? Probably, but I've wasted enough time on trying to get some joy from this machine. My advice - AVOID!
