Product Description A worthy successor to the CanoScan Lide 70, the Lide 90 from Canon has faster scanning speeds than its predecessor, and comes in a more compact package. The Lide 90 from Canon is one of the smallest CIS (Contact Image Sensor) scanners on the market today. In just 14 seconds, the CanoScan Lide 90 can scan one A4 page in 300 dpi, and produce a digital image in 2400 x 4800 dpi on your computer screen. Each reproduction is a flawless copy of the original, true to detail and colour quality, thanks to the 48-bit colour input. The CanoScan Lide 90 comes with a vertical support for scanning in small workspaces and is powered directly through the USB 2.0 connection. The Lide 90 from Canon is both compact and functional, and packs loads of innovative scanning technology into one sleek device.

Not as good as some February 16, 2008 Alan Sears (Reading, UK) 15 out of 24 found this review helpful
I had a Visioneer 9000, but it was incompatible with Windows Vista, so I bought the Canon. Unfortunately I have found it to be very slow. Scanning documents at 150 dpi each page takes 50 seconds. The actual scan takes 7 seconds, the remainder was waiting for it to do whatever it gets up to before the scan starts. The Visioneer used to start scanning as soon as you pressed the button, or in other words it was a race to keep up with it when scanning multipage documents. The software that comes with it is confusing. I ditched most of it as pretty useless in the end (Page Manager and ArcSoft Photo Manager). True, it's not expensive, but then neither was the Visioneer. I don't think I would recommend this scanner to anyone.
Good little scanner for the money January 9, 2008 Pete (Stockport, Cheshire United Kingdom) 43 out of 43 found this review helpful
This Canon scanner is good value. It is a smidgen over A4 size and about 2cm deep and looks sleek in silver. It is totally powered over the USB so it is convenient for occasional use - I may even just slip it into a cupboard when it's not being used. It even works on a tiny vertical stand so takes up little space, and takes 2 seconds to flip to the traditional horizontal flatbed position. Resolution is up to 2400x4800 dpi which frankly is overkill when you print at 300dpi max. A big plus for me was the decent Mac software that came with it (I use MacOSX Tiger). Scan speed is quick too at 14 seconds. NOTE - mine came with a USB cable so don't buy an extra one.
