It's a good budget camera but still in development imo. September 6, 2008 Reviewit (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It works, but 3 areas that it falls down imo 1) Software - On other cameras such as the Axis models you can set timed actions when motion is detected. For example when motion detected email or ftp the images of the full activity for x seconds/minutes or until the motion stops so you can receive second by second sequencial images of the full activity. With the Ycam you have no real options for the time line when motion is detected. I had someone come into my house for 3 minutues and all I received was 2 images, neither of their face. 2) Doesn't work well with Firefox etc. You need to use I.E. 3) Night vision was disappointing in large completely black rooms. Street/moon light help achieved better results. It's a good budget camera but still in development imo.
Fantastic baby monitor solution if you have a (PC) laptop July 7, 2008 N. Khan (London, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
We were using a Summer wireless video monitor which was worse than useless, (worse as in we had to turn it off if we used the microwave due to interference and then would forget to turn it back on). The YCam however provides excellent and robust video and audio (via a router) at a 640X480 res. Set up is easy although I hope some contract controls become available in a firmware update as it can burn out white detail in IR mode in darkness. Also their customer service got back to me within a few minutes of both my emails. So far, product and back up recommended. The only real drawback (for some/for now) is that its only IE 5.5+ compatible for audio and I haven't been able to find a later mac version of IE so for now we can only use our PC laptop for audio (video is fine on mac). YCam are working on an mac browser compatible update though.
Great Internet Camera June 24, 2008 NeilC (Windsor, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this camera to use as a baby monitor and so far it's been absolutely great. It has a rugged design, very durable design compared to the cheap webcams you normally get. The image quality is great (up to 640 x 480) and the infra-red night vision works great. Set-up was relatively straight-forward as well, for both ethernet and wireless. I've given it only 4 stars though, because the audio only works in Internet Explorer, other browsers such as Firefox, Safari etc. get the video fine, just no audio. Y-cam customer service say that they're working on this via a firmware update. ADDITIONAL: Just set up the camera to be viewed over the internet. The manual and set-up was extremely easy even though I have a dynamic IP address. Couldn't have been easier - GREAT Product
