Absoulutly Amazing July 14, 2008 Metal gear solid rules These headphones are extremely good, in terms of value for money and their function. I've had these headphones for the best part of 5 years and they have not dissapointed me at all. Even in plays which has extremly loud noises such as planes etc, they have still been extremely effective. I would recomend these headphones to anyone.
Perfectly balanced and comfortable. July 7, 2008 J. Berry I bought these as a replacement for my old iPod headphones, not because I was unhappy with the ipod ones, but just because I wanted something that gave me more quality. I'd read all the reviews saying that these had higher bass output, and cleaner frequency response. To be honest, the iPod headphones pump out more bass than any other in ear headphone I've tried. The iPod phones have a very 'scooped' sound. Loads of bass, and loads of treble, but the midtones have been curved out. They do sound very clear and do not buzz as people have said in reviews. That may happen if you play your iPod or portable player using an EQ preset with very high output, that exceeds the headphone's output capacity. Generally, the vast majority of records and music sold out there has been mastered to be listened on a stereo system with the equaliser set flat. The mastering process is where the artist or producer (or Master Mixer) decide what frequencies the music should pump out. Different speakers and simulators and a whole bunch of machines and good pairs of ears are used to decide whether to master it with lots of top end, low frequencies, or muffle or whatever. So generally, they have done the EQ presetting for you! So in essence, the music wants you to listen to it how it was meant to be - through a non-biased sound system. Which is why flat EQ should be usually be used (if you have the choice). Altering the EQ on your system is going against what should be. Without trying to sound to cocky, this depends on you having a good quality system or player that can provide a good output in flat setting. And then there's the speakers! All different speakers have different tonal characteristics. A set of speakers that can handle all frequencies pushed through them, yet keeping a neutral tonal standpoint. This is where the Sony MDR-ED21LP shines through. All frequencies appear to be very very well balanced. There is a clear, solid bass response, that doesn't flap at high volumes, treble and high mids are crisp, yet sympathetic, and it oozes beautifully warm mid-frequencies, which a lot of speakers either have too much of or not enough of. People who want huge amounts of bass... that's where the EQ presets on your player come in. These headphones are very responsive to EQ variation. They can handle all iPod presets without flap, fuzz or 'deadzones'. It did take a little while to get used to the way they feel, but they are very comfortable, and they stay in my ears (at least - though everyone's got different ears - which is a shame cus you can't seem to get a refund on in-ear phones at most places for hygiene reasons) very well. So if you're looking for a well priced, good quality set of headphones that have great tonal response right accross the frequency spectrum, and are comfortable, these are for you!
Lasted 1 Year June 10, 2008 C. Noble (Berkshire) Good set of earphones. They stayed in realy well and were not at all uncomftable. Good sound quality, much better than that from the earphones that came with my mp3 player. After 1 year the left earphone stopped working, unless you hold the wire from the plug at a particuler angle. This is probably due to normal wear and tear. Overall i was satified with this product, if not a little disapointed when they stopped working.
Great earphones, even at twice the price, they'd be a bargain! May 6, 2008 K. Whyte (Glasgow, Scotland) This is now my 3rd pair of these headphones I've owned, the first got stepped on, and the second I'd had for about 4 or 5 years and the plastic had started to fatigue and hurt the ears - but they still work despite be thrown in a bag every day. In between owning these, I've had a variety of earphones from Sennheiser, Creative and others, at up to 40 for most expensive I bought - none of them compare to these earphones - rich sound with deep bass (the kind that can rumble the eardrum), very comfortable, good noise blocking, even length cords, and very durable. I cannot recommend these highly enough!
Okay -- Not bad but not fantastic April 21, 2008 A. Hemnani (Belfast, U.K.) I bought this headphone going by the ratings and reviews from other users. I am not satisfied with the sound quality. It is not rich and deep enough. If asked to compare I will still rate my original Apple earphones better than these. They have got excellent clarity and cover both high and low ends. The only problem I had with those was that I had to use black sponge earphone covers which my brother gave me. Without those sponges Apple earphones dont stay in my ears even for few mins. For people those who disagree with me on sound quality, I would like to mention that I use Bose On-Ear headphones. No questions asked when Bose is mentioned because they are stunning when comes to sound quality. So comparing Bose on-ear with Apple and these Sony ED21LP in ear ones.. Apple ones are definately better. Any earphone which just give bit more of bass doesnt mean that it has got good sound quality. Clarity and coverage of treble, depth of Bass everything counts. Those who are finding replacement for Apple ones, I will say just try to find the sponge covers and you will notice improvement in sound quality because they fit bit more close to ears providing richer bass and very clear treble plus they stay in ear. If you still looking for replacement, I will say spend once but go for really great brands like Bose in-ear or Shure kind of.. You will get quality for money you spend. I dont recommend these sony ones to those who are looking for rich quality. These are good for those who just want to listen music with quality and dont bother rich quality. Only positive: They fit in ears perfect and tried shaking my head like anything but they didn't moved even 1 cm.. So good when you are walking or are in tube.
