Worked fine for me October 7, 2008 W. Nelson (UK) I had to read the 2.5" HFS formatted hard drive out of a defunct Mac Mini and this worked a treat, coupled with Hfsexplorer to let my XP PC read the OSX file format. I did have a bit of trouble with the tiny securing screws which pretty much refused to go in straight but brute force wedged them in flat and it's pretty solid now. This sort of enclosure is probably going to be used mainly for data recovery situations (I assume) so permanent enclosure may not even be a problem for you. Actually fitting the drive itself is a breeze. It IS a tiny enclosure so check the dimensions of your hard drive first.
Working at second time of asking July 16, 2008 Kenny_Consumer Works fine albeit at second attempt of inserting an original iBook drive. Nice and handy, fits into shirt pocket!
Works perfectly but cosmetic fit not perfect September 15, 2007 J. A. L. Dawson (Winchester, England) I fitted a 40GB drive to the enclosure and it worked perfectly once the two leads were plugged in. There is a small but. My drive, extracted from a Dell laptop, was a bit too long for the case. That meant that I couldn't snap on the plastic cover over the end of the case. It's a small cosmetic failing. The drive came with a black vinyl case which doesn't look too robust - but I will probably lose that before it wears out. Overall, you get what you pay for and this does the business and is cheap.
Warning July 15, 2007 J. Lankester (????) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Amazon description says that you can use any "OLD hard disk". I tried it with a new 120 GByte drive and it did not work at all. I checked with Dynamodes web site and discovered that it will only take drives up to 80 GBytes. I used an old 80 GByte drive and it worked perfectly.
WARNING!! Only suitable for DRIVES up to 10mm depth. February 26, 2007 GROBER (Scotland) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a good quality item which worked first time out of the box.HOWEVER BE WARNED It is only suitable for drives 10mm deep ( thick) It is not suitable for IBM Travelstar hardrives which are 12mm deep! There may be other drives with a similar problem so measure your hard drive dimensions before you buy. I hope Amazon will alter their item technical description to include this important fact!!!!!!!
