Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Can't see anything wrong with it yet.   October 11, 2008
Mr. W. A. Inman (UK - NOTTS)
I bought this printer a couple of weeks ago, with some ink (ink was pricey, hence 4 stars).

So far it has been great, it prints really quickly, although I only use it for lecture slides at the moment, have yet to print anything too colourful as I don't have the right paper for doing so!

Hasn't thrown up any faults or anything, and the scanner is pretty good, done a few photo scans with it and they seem to come out well.

Not bad value, there also seem to be plenty of features on it that I haven't got round to using yet!

For the casual user, I'm sure it's perfectly good enough, I think a lot of bad reviews come from people trying to use a fairly low budget printer industrially, which they aren't designed for.

1 out of 5 stars wrong power cable   May 13, 2008

I wasn't expecting a usb printer cable as no one supplies these with the printer anymore. I did expect to be able plug the printer into the mains when I got it. I was disappointed and frustrated to find that I had been supplied a contintental two pin power cable. I'm waiting to see it this gets sorted out by customer services. Very disappointed not to be able to use the printer at all.

I am giving this product 4 stars because I have not used all of its features. This is the second printer. The first printer (which according to a Canon call centre operative was faulty)was returned to Amazon.
They were extremely helpful and their service was five star standard.Within 48 hours new m/c was delivered and original m/c collected with absolute minimum of hassle.
The original printer I had "the problem" with was inserting the ink cartridges. Canon do not really explain that when inserting the cartridges you need to lift and push the cartridge home hard, until you hear the click. And when I say hard I mean hard.I am a pure nerd when dealing with this type of stuff. But I am very pleased with this purchase

5 out of 5 stars Speed took me by surprise   March 13, 2008

I have only had this machine for just under a week. In common with all other printers I've seen on sale recently it doesn't come with the USB cable, but then most stores will alert you to this fact. I couldn't find the product sticker on the machine but it was on the outside of the box it came in so no worries there for registration purposes.

My old epson printer took a lot longer than this machine does to produce a page of mono text and I was caught off guard as a result. Its handy to be able to use the optional duplex facility as it cuts down enormously on the amount of paper you get through. Photos that I've printed out and scanned into the pc before printing have come out nicely and duly been dispatched to my mother (stops her nagging about lack of pictures of the great grand-kids). Its worth shopping around for the photo paper though as this can work out pricey and the added bonus of not having to purchase a separate photo cartridge is pleasing to my pocket. I also like the way that you can close the front output tray when its not in use and save on the dusting!

Be warned that if you want to alter print settings before printing out stuff, you really need to go through the machine's own software to do so - its easy enough to find as it places itself on your desktop as it installs- trying to alter print settings from the application you're in at the time gets ignored. Overall I think its a nice piece of equipment and worth the money.

2 out of 5 stars Ok product so far, disappointing service...   March 11, 2008

Oh dear...having to call customer support the day you receive the product is not good. The reason? ...poor documentation, missing cable, no help on website.

First let me say I haven't been able to actually use the printer itself yet. The quick start guide is very thin on information. Refers to a 1 sheet pictorial only guide that very vaguely shows how to insert the cartridges then install software (all ok though as its so straightforward)...but then here's the problem - the sheet shows 1 picture of a cable to plug the printer into the USB port of your PC. But there's no cable, and no further mention of a cable anywhere else in any documentation...presumably to gloss over the fact that they intentionally don't supply one! How cheap is that for a supposedly reputable company like Canon?!

Then I go to register, and I can't find the serial number. There's no indication of where it may be or what it may look like in any of the documentation, nor on the website (I looked thoroughly!!!).

I gave up & called Customer Support regarding both questions, and the toll-free number on the website was not recognised by BT. Instead I had to call a premium rate number supplied on the website as a secondary option!!! Once again I ask, HOW CHEAP IS THAT?!! Once my call was answered, I was directed to the serial number promptly enough (inside the unit, behind the cartridges; only revealed when the printer is switched on & they slide across to the other side)...and informed that they don't supply the USB cable, and I can purchase it from any computer store. That's it. Customer service were polite and prompt enough, but shoddy attitude towards its customers by Canon execs revealed by the no effort poor documentation and missing cable...lazy creation of overall package.

For a company with the apparent reputation of Canon, this is a surprisingly shoddy customer experience, and shows a somewhat disdainful attitude towards its customers...I'm surprised and disappointed. I won't be buying any Canon products again for this reason.
