asus eee from mobile September 18, 2008 R. Fletcher I got my asus eee from mobileIT on here in this page. Unfortunately the battery they supply you with is the 4400 as such I will need to spend more to upgrade and actually get a decent battery life out of this thing!!
Not so easy after all August 8, 2008 A. Mooney 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought a Linux version for all the reasons the other comments gave. The central problem was that wireless didn't work, and ASUS were of no help in fixing this. In fact, the instructions they gave (to recover system) led to the whole system crashing. I was told that the solutions that didn't work for me, 'usually work'. I'm about to take it back. I'm by no means a computer expert, but I'm pretty literate. The instructions for use look simple - but they also don't always work (e.g system backup). This could be a faulty machine - but the problems I had have been reported by others.
A great little all rounder July 30, 2008 Sammi 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After spending months fighting for PC time with my husband we decided it was time to buy me a laptop. I wanted to surf the net, watch movies, store photo's, music and all the other little bits and bobs. We didn't want to spend a fortune so decided on the Asus eee 900. It has proven to be a fantastic little machine. All the stories of poor battery life have turned out to be wasted worry since a few steps like turning down the brightness and switching off some unused functions can improve battery life drastically. The fact that there is no CD drive attached is of no consequence since they are rellatively inexpensive to buy, and there are enough USB ports to hold a few external peripherals at once. As a windows user I have found the Linux OS a little bit confusing, however that is becoming more apparent the more I use it, and I prefer to have the extra disk space. There are some nifty little applications on here that I wouldn't be without too. The built in wireless picks up and maintains signal with apparent ease, and I can take it anywhere in the house, even the basement without interfering with the wireless. All in all this handy, portable little machine has made me wonder how I would ever cope with having to lug a regular sized laptop about.
cheap & very cheerful July 18, 2008 Ms. S. R. Wilkin (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for taking into uni as i was sick of queing for a pc, very light weight; fits easily in my handbag. Easy to use, fast start up of machine & applications. Wifi is very good, never had problems getting online. This is what a laptop should be; small, lightweight & does everything i need it to whilst i'm away from my home pc. Battery lasts a good 5/6 hours. I got used to the small keyboard quickly & can't think of anything bad to say about this little gem.
now shipped with better battery July 16, 2008 5co77ie (UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I suspect the reviewer earlier had the older model when the next one up was released ASUS stopped shipping these and then suddenly they appeared with the better battery. The wi fi range is good, i can work in the garden on it and it's perfect for journalists on the fly - small enough to fit in as small bag or big coat pocket. keyboard is easily usable even with my fat fingers, and from pressing start up to typing is just over a minute which is terrific, I'm using the linux version now to write this review - battery lasts about 5-6 hours. You can easily change the linux OS to a full blown version - either way it's great much, much better than the windows version - bigger hard drive - alright the eee has no cd drive but you can use memory sticks and there are loads of usb ports. I bought it to use alongside my laptop - but the laptop doesn't get a look in now - much easier to sofa surf on this too. I thought the white would look tacky but it has grown on me. I use it all the time - on the train, in the car, in the field, the buid is better than I thought - would be great for a kid at school too.
