To put this in context my dad worked for Digital (DEC) when I was a child and I first started using PC's at the age of 3. I got my first PC at about 11 or 12, a 486 with (gasp!) a CD-ROM drive that took three days to install. Now I'm not saying I'm Old-Skool(TM) as I never owned a C64 (just an Atari ST), but I just wanted to state I've been a PC fanboy for a long time. I'd always hated Macs. Macs were those grey boxy things that only ran Prince of Persia, although apparently they were great for "desktop publishing", whatever that is. It didn't sound like something with grenade launchers or helicopters so I wasn't interested.
Then, the iPod happened and Macs were colourful and plasticcy, but again, no games and a slight bit of arrogance about them. Fast forward a few years and I now do a LOT of web work and Office-type stuff, video-conferencing to the States every other night, and travelling a lot. As the company I work for is full of Mac-o-philes they got me this MacBook (in beautiful black) to try and convert me, and it worked. It wasn't that steep a learning curve, I figured most of it out on the plane one day, and once I'd installed MS Office and a few applications I was away. Here's some things I love about this Mac:
* It turns on very quickly - I hate how my desktop PC takes 5 minutes to be ready to work, especially with virus software etc.
* It multitasks very well - I have no problem throwing around multiple open windows and it's all very pretty and easy to use.
* It's highly customisable - If I move my mouse to the top-right corner it clears away to the desktop. Contrast that with WinXP where I have to hit the tiny little icon on my toolbar, although about 2% of the time I hit the app next to it. Annoying! The only downside to all this customisation is that if you borrow someone else's Mac they've got a completely different setup to you and you feel a bit clumsy.
* It just works - WiFi connection is a doddle, as is plugging it into projectors, networks, routers etc. It just works. It makes you wonder why PC's require such obsessive amounts of attention to function properly.
* It looks beautiful - It's not the Air, but it's still a thing of beauty. When you first open the box you do go "ooooooh" quite a lot.
* Battery life rocks - My PC laptop (a Sony Vaio) only had maybe 2.5-3hrs charge depending on what you were doing, the Mac consistently has 5hrs+
* iChat is brilliant - I've been using Skype for a while through my PC and had problems with disconnects, distortions, etc. Now we use iChat (comes installed on all Macs with OS X I think) and it's flawless. Even better we just learned how to do video conference calling, which is a godsend for a distributed company like ours.
* Accessories are brilliant - The magsafe power cord is officially best invention ever. The mighty mouse (two buttons!) is great, and there are some very slinky laptop cases you can get to go with it. The Mac is a practical fashion accessory, and you can see the envy on the faces of people with WinBox Laptops...
Now, with all these positives you'd think I might be blinded to some of its flaws, so I thought I'd list those too:
* When it crashes, it really crashes - Some people say Macs don't crash; that's incorrect. Particularly if it's been on standby for a long time rather than being reset properly, it is prone to crash maybe once or twice a week, completely unexpectedly and with no warning. Shutdown and reboot each day, it only takes a few minutes anyway.
* No games - I used to play a lot of PC games but am moving over to Wii and other things anyway, but I miss not being able to have more games on a system. Bizarrely the chess that comes with my version of Leopard crashes on move 16. Oh well, I suck at chess anyway.
* iTunes is not my favourite site - I've gotten a few things down off of iTunes (Ratatouille v good!), South Park, some songs, and I hate the iTunes store. It's laid out badly, there aren't reviews, they could learn a lot from Amazon.
* It turns you into a smug git - Seriously. You know those "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" ads? I thought they were pretty obnoxious. But now I find I AM THAT GUY. Over at my parents' house trying to use dad's PC; "Oh this is a bit slow, you might want to get a Mac", "Oh, I see you got the new Vaio. Errr, neat." Being a Mac convert makes you about as annoying as an ex-smoker (and I'm one of those too).

Ok well firstly this laptop is great, expensive but great. I have had my laptop for around 8 months, i got it from pc world and had the mac lessons and one of the guys said that it seemed a bit flakey but its ok. The battery is very impressive and if your doin what im doin now ie browsing the internet with the brightest screen setting it will last for around 5 hrs. I often run my battery right down deliberatly as it tends to make the batteries last longer, and just to add try not to charge up things over night cos it will ruin the battery if you leave it connected to the mains for too long.
Anyway back to my reveiw, the batteries if your watching a dvd could last for around 3 hrs and the longest you could really make it last for is 6hrs i guess.
The mac can be very useful, it has built in bluetooth which is useful for connecting your mobile to, i also bought a wirless mighty mouse which is very good and would reccomend, also a bit over priced. The general idea of apple is that if it has their name on it the will overprice it but the are 90 times out of 100 it will be good quality. The wirless internet or 'airport' can be a bit hit and miss occasionally when going on the internet but is normally ok.
The isight i just want to mention can not be used on MSN, but it can be used on skype and apples own chatty things "very discriptive" There is no flash on it but it is still very good. If you want to make videos you have to go on imovie. I was a bit dissapointed though about msn, you can also add funny effects on the pictures as many people know and then can be used on msn or internet profile.
Im going to quickly skim through the rest now.
iphoto is very fun and you can use up your time on it sorting out pics and albums changing the lighting etc.
itunes is the same as windows
i bought microsoft office for this which im very impressed with and i also got student discount at the mac shop which is brill.
some of the softwear that it comes with, like windows, you dont need to use but often have an urge to know what it is, trust me you dont really need it like the apple script softwear.
the widgets, calendar and address book is all very fun and useful.
it comes with garage band also which is fun.
also i suppose i must add that the memory is very big and i dont think i will be using it all anytime soon. literally thousands of pics and music etc etc can be stored and much much more.
i do reccomend that you look on the apple downloads bit for extra widgets and softwear, especially for spywear protection etc strongly reccomend macscan.
overall this is very fun laptop compared to windows and i would reccomend it if you have a spare 1000 odd once you get your games and other softwear and hardwear. Good investment overall in i look forward to using it when doing my coursework for gcses because you can do some really different things when on word.
the general quality is great and the colour is nice too.

I'm sitting here writing this review on my new Apple Macbook and after the two nonsensical bad reviews below, I'd like to redress the balance.
This is an awesome laptop.
I'm already a big Apple Mac fan after making the slightly scary switch from a Windows PC to an Apple iMac a couple of years ago. Generally I have never once regretted it and I really feel like I'm slumming it if I have to use a Windows PC for any reason. Mac OSX is truly a more intuitive, user friendly and more reliable platform than the clunky, crash prone Windows.
I still, however, have a few slight issues about moving to Mac OSX. One is that although Microsoft Office for Mac allows you to open Powerpoint documents, it doesn't support ActiveX so some interactive features don't work. A minor niggle for most, but I'm a teacher and until now my presentations haven't been as good as they should have been. Another problem is that some programs still aren't released on Mac. I have a great little program that allows me to clean up sound quality on vinyl recordings but it's Windows only.
The solution?
An Apple Macbook with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This brilliant feature allows me to run Windows XP (avoid Vista) alongside Mac OSX. Just download Apples brilliant Bootcamp software and follow the easy instructions to creat a completely separate partition on the hard drive for Windows. It's genius! You can boot it up in either mode and drag files into either partition from the desktop. Therefore when I absolutely have to, Windows is at my disposal. The only problem is that the computer will be vunerable to viruses etc. when in Windows mode so antivirus software will be needed which it's not on Mac OSX.
Apart from all that, the Macbook is a sleek, good looking powerhouse that works faster than my iMac and contains a massive 160GB hard drive. Then you have all the brilliant features such as spotlight (superfast file search), iLife, and much more.
Brilliant.

This is top of the range, true class. I was a PC user who downloaded Safari for Windows XP and just fell in love with Apple's easy to use and innovative interface from then on.
Ive been using Apple products ever since the launch of the 3rd Generation iPod at HMV London all those years ago, but had never so much as touched an Apple computer. I really should have.
The black Macbook just for some reason looks so much more classy/slick/stylish than the white versions, when the Apple Logo is all lit up on the lid and you're in a dark place: it looks amazing. Serious envy. Everywhere I've taken it so far (literally everywhere) people have glared at it with such wanting eyes, especially those that know that the black version is the highest model.
The most amazing thing about the macbook is its start-up speed, ease of use (I now LOVE the one button pad), the hotkeys (i.e.Ctrl + F = Switch to Windows Vista), and ofcourse - THE ABILITY TO RUN WINDOWS!!! Parallels Desktop is the most amazing software ever created, with one click and 2 minutes I can be using Microsoft Office 2007 in WIndows Vista Business ON MY MAC. Amazing, and I would know as I use it so frequently.
Just to prove my BlackMac love: Within the first 2 weeks of owning my notebook the paint started chipping away & flaking off, at all of the edges and where the screen-lid met the body. I mean BADLY, like rub your finger on it and the spot will get bigger, badly. BUT: I rang up Amazon this morning, and within 5 minutes of describing the issue a NEW ONE was on its way to be here tomorrow!!! THAT is service. In my haste to get the issue fixed I also rang up Apple beforehand, and all they could suggest was visiting the Genius Bar in Apple Store London (15mins by Tube) and seeing what they say, so they booked me in and stuff for tomorrow (Tues) but after Amazon's Service I don't need to go anymore! [I will though, just to make my 'frustration' known. Ha]
Overall, a wicked wicked wicked notebook and I would recommend it to anyone with a lotta money! ...but not to anybody I know... cos it's nice being the only one at school with such an envious notebook!
BTW: Get this version with 160GB or 120GB at the minimum, the harddrive space will be low and nearly gone before you know it [and I'm only using it for Student-type stuff!]. + 1GB of RAM for me is just fine, no probs at all.
