Nw-E005/VMC November 3, 2007 Spider Monkey (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great little unit, with superb sound quality for the size. The battery life is amazing and the time ton recharge (from USB port) can't be beaten. The earphones are of good quality (although jumping on the ipod bandwagon being white!) with great bass and tone. Once you get used to the controls, it is extremely easy to navigate around and you can find most features relatively quickly. This is perfect for the gym due to it's size and weight. On the other side, sadly I have to say after owning Sony Mp3's for many years now that I regret the day I ever chose Sony. This is all down to the terrible Sonicstage software. Yes it is easy to use, but it limits you to Sony hardware for the rest of your life (unless you want to reload hundreds of Cd's onto your computer) and sadly ever since I loaded the version of sonicstage that came with this MP3 onto my computer it has made all newly recorded albums skip and jump and it no longer allows me to transfer previously loaded albums onto my new MP3! Frustrating in the extreme. So overall, great MP3 player, terrible software.
Everythings Great With This...Apart From Volume! September 14, 2007 Mr. Paul D. Brown (Scotland) This is a great looking little MP3 Player, very easy to get to grips with the buttons and simple menus. Everything's great, until your on the train or bus and go to turn the volume up a couple of notches and realize your at the 30 limit! The sound just isn't loud enough on the player to block out the engine noise of a bus or train (or even the thumping dance music of the person sitting next to you!). Apparently this is due to those lovely people of the EU and a law in France regarding MP3 volume capping limits (2.5W instead of the usual 5W), although i've never experienced this before with any of my other MP3 players here in the UK, not even the one on my Sony Ericsson phone. So if your thinking of buying one, import one from anywhere but Europe, you will at least then have the option of turning the volume up when needed, even with decent headphones you still want to crank it up one more bar.
Cheap, but disappointing September 1, 2007 rm05 (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used to own an NW-E407, which is pretty similar to this but an older model and only 1GB. I was impressed by that player so thought I'd 'upgrade' to this newer 2GB one. I really wish I hadn't - this is an inferior product in every way but memory capacity. The '407 was made in Japan, and had a much higher quality feel and finish than this one, which is made in Malaysia. It feels quite cheap and built down to a price, though admittedly this cost less than my older one. The audio quality is noticeably poorer, though by no means terrible. Whilst I am fairly critical when it comes to audio quality, I wouldn't say I'm overly so, but I can notice the difference in this and my older player. There is some very basic adjustment of tone possible but this does not improve matters, and also there is no bass boost, a feature I found useful on my old player. Worryingly, my unit also skips, like another reviewer mentioned. That isn't acceptable at any price. The display is very small and difficult to read in daylight, and the buttons are tiny. SonicStage software is overblown, and I'd rather be free of it on my machines. One of the newer Sony players is now drag and drop, and I would definitely suggest you look at this first and pay the extra. It's a shame, as I've always got on with Sony products. But this is going back. It seems these low-end Sony products are best avoided - I can see now I should have spent more on one of their better models. I'm going back to my old MiniDisc player (it's also a Sony). It's well made, sounds better and is less fuss.
Very Pleased. July 12, 2007 Ellie May (Hertfordshire, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am very pleased with this item. I have got it infront of me, it's small, unique and handy. I take it everywhere with me, and it's still not damaged, I've had it for months! I got a see-through case which is slighty bigger, and this still does not make the little MP3 look ugly or strange. The battery life is very long, it lasts for days. It's basically a 3 mintue charge, and that's just by plugging it into your PC! Songs and so easy to download onto to it, with one click of a button. The quality is very good too. It can be loud, or quiet. It has nice 'Screen Saver' graphics and 'Hold' incase of young childern, friends or just turning its' self on. It comes in many colours, small, perfesional, handy, pocket sized, and just over-all easy to use. The ONLY slight problem is, you need a case, because you become so attached you don't want the little MP3 to get scratched. ^^. Hope this helped.
nice little player March 30, 2007 Ben Grimm76 (Lincs, Uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a nice little mp3 player. easy to use, nice and small and good looking (although mine's in Black). Had no problems with the software at all and find it simple to use. Only down side for me is it's not quite loud enough.
