4 out of 5 stars I like this MP3 player but   September 8, 2007

Bad points
i)The battery life is only 8 hours for the 6gb version.
ii)Connect isn't really a very good or stable piece of software - go for Sonic Stage, it's much better.
iii) I think if you go jogging it may crash as it has moving parts e.g. hard disk.

Good points
i)it has Chinese and Japanese characters so you can listen to your asian music without thoses blocks replacing the writting.
ii)sound quality is really good.
iii)it's looks swell
iiii) It's much smaller than the 20gb version, so it fits nicely in your pocket.

1 out of 5 stars sonicstage?????   July 29, 2007

congratulations to Sony for devising the worst piece of software to grace the planet. Sonicstage (even the most recent version) crashes randomly, decides the player is not connected, takes hours to put music on the player and sometimes duplicates the music so you have two copies and no space for new cds. Avoid. Buy something that works - until Sony decides that is no longer going to treat its customers this way. Buy a Cowon x5 better quality and none of the hassle - or if you are really desperate an ipod.

5 out of 5 stars WOW   March 26, 2007

LOVE this little player. Had it for over a year now and have upgraded software to Sonic Stage V4 which works just fine. After all this time have just found the volume hack! Well worth doing as it makes such a big difference! I'd strongly recommend buying one rather than an ipod!

Sound quality is first class and the ATRAC compression is excellent desite all the complaints about Sony using their own format. (It will play a multitude of other files too!)Build and design beautiful. Reliability...fine so far!

5 out of 5!

4 out of 5 stars i love mine!   March 24, 2007

I must say I love my sony walkman! It looks lovely: much sexier then the Ipods etc and abit less common.

I have heard that connect player is not very reliable...honestly go for sonic stage its pretty reliable and really easy to use.

Get the volume hack of the internet and you can happily wile away your days blasting out your music (and going deaf in the process!)

Its easy to use and the sound is always good quality

My only complaint is that after 6 months of pretty constant use (I use mine every day and use full battery every day), the battery life per day seems to be doing down.

apart from that its great! I recommend you dont drop it though they seem to dent easily!!

(if anybody knows whether its possible to buy an in-car charger for them then please let me know ASAP)

3 out of 5 stars Not the best...   March 7, 2007

I am a big Sony fan, and being brand-loyal I went to buy this mp3 player over an ipod or creative.
On reflection I would say I made a mistake. The software is abysmal, and corrupts songs, is slow, and crashes for no apparent reason. It has caused many hours of pain.
The player itself takes ages to boot up when you turn it on, and loves to switch itself off after a minimal delay, this would be okay if it didn't take so long to turn on.
Once it is running though, I really like it, and I think it is the nicest looking player out there.

Unfortunately for me it is not worth the hassle. If you can afford to, look elsewhere.
