Apple iPod 20GB [MA079B/A]

The iPod also only seems to work if you have a cover for it - why would you need a cover? Surely the thing is protected enough to work without one? Well, it would seem the answer is no.

I, personally, loved the ipod when i first got it and I still do love it, but I'm not sure it was worth all that money for the faults it has./

I bought an iPod photo (20gb) and it is fantastic! Although replaced recently with the video iPod, I would strongly reccomend it. The click- wheel is a pleasure to use and it holds a massive 5000songs with album art. The only negative that i can think of is the price. It was £209 and you can get the equivalent Sony for less; but then again it is an iPod!
I can sum it up in 1 word: FANTASTIC!

Lovely bit of kit, stunning looking and stunning sounding.
The Apple 4th Generation ipod has to be the best so far.
Its delicate so treat it with respect, no hard disk will stand up to dropping onto concrete, so don't expect the ipod to still work if you do. Buy a leather case for it, as this work of art scratches easily and needs to be looked after. If you need an MP3 player to bash round the gym or go jogging with, its best not to buy a hard disk player, like the shuffle or nano...
Buy this player, buy a case to put it in and look after it and it will give you years of use. Replacement battery kits, including the tools to open up the ipod are available on ebay for £12 if you are technically minded. Do not believe all you hear about problems with the ipod batteries, like any PDA, mobile phone, the battery will last 2years and the Apple replacement service costs £50 or you can do it yourself.
Also, its best not to completely discharge and recharge the battery as Lithium batteries do not like this.
Also, buy a new pair of headphones, the sound is stunning!
Not too keen on the itunes software, as it only likes you connecting the ipod to one pc... not a problem if you only use one pc. Also... DO NOT rip your CDs using itunes.... use Musicmatch to copy your CDs to mp3s onto your pc and then add them to itunes. Also, remember NEVER unplug your ipod, whilst transfering data as it CAN damage it... You need to stop the device first in the system tray on your pc, then unplug it.

Fantastic little item, when it works. Mine has been back to Apple twice in 3 months. They tried to blame Windows SP2 and my apparent inadequate IT skills. I teach ICT and it worked initially with SP2 installed. When it works I love it, but it does make for a rather expensive paper weight when it doesn’t.
