Not reliable - software big problems and no cleaning materials July 30, 2008 George Rosenberg (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these after much thought last october and have found it a real pain. the software never worked reliably so for a long time I simply used other standard software to work it. This worked (mostly) but if i tried the software which came with it - which has lots of interesting add-ons it normally gave me false messages about the computer being unable to contact the scanner. Many calls to HP no help. The pages of instructions they give about how to make the software work are a fair indication that lots of other people have problems too. Frankly I want to scan not to spend days working out why I can't scan. Finally after 10 months the feeder and the base gave out. Credit to HP they replaced them but this only after hours of calls on premium rate numbers. The numbers in the handbook are wrong so you have to pay for an expensive 0870 call and listen to endless options before you find out what to do. The gadget for copying negatives really does not work, especially with slides. Terribly slow and not a good product. Altogether too much trouble for a machine which ought to make life easy. And one other twist of the knife. To keep the sheet-feed clean you need special impregnated cleaning sheets. You get one free. That's it. HP don't sell them and the people they direct you to do not sell to non-trade buyers. Unbelievable but true!
