Major failure after just one month July 17, 2008 Ivan (somewhere boring) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After only one months light use the drive started making a rattling noise then within a few moments all life ceased. Having given considerable thought & spent rather too long reading reviews the one conclusion I have come to is that external hard drives all seem somewhat tempremental. If or when yours fails you are likely to lose your data. If you cant live with this then make sure you always run 2 drives with one as a back up. On the plus side this drive was quiet & cool in operation and worked, fast & simple in the extreme.
Great product June 12, 2008 Drew M (N. Ireland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this product having read other responses on Amazon. I was not dissappointed. An excellent product.
Good Hdd - a bit nonresistant May 20, 2008 Simon Knipper (Great Brittain) 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this HDD half a year ago. I was really happy with it. Used it on mac and pc and there were no problems at all. But then there came the day a friend of mine dropped it while it was running from about 30 cm. It was straight away broken. The other thing which wasn't so nice about this HDD is that it is quite loud. I now have a Maxtor drive which is cooled passively as well and the drive is a lot quieter than the Freecom. So when there is an offer you should buy this drive but otherwise get a Western Digital myBook or a Maxtor Basics. I hope I could help you.
Nice, solid drive... May 8, 2008 Stuart L. Mason (Manhattan, NY) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a well made, solid, hard-working drive. Great price, and seemingly reliable. My only issue is that for a drive of this size, Firewire would be a nice addition. If you're wanting a drive to back up on, which is why I purchased this, then USB is still slow (yes, even USB2.0). If you're using it as a main usable storage system, then you'll have no problem at all. I like it, but I wish I'd gone Firewire, purely as I purchased the 500GB to back up my other PCs and it's a slow process. Overnight backups, maybe. And don't even think about USB1. STOP! You're thinking about USB1! Nice drive for a great price. Just think about what you want it for (more than I did).
A Damn Good Hard Drive May 1, 2008 Mr. N. D. Thornton (London UK) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Great design, easy to use. not had any problems so far. comes formatted in FAT32 format, which you might want to change to NTFS before you put anything on it, but apart from that seems like a good buy. aluminium casing acts a heat sink, so there is no fan, and it therefore runs as close to silent as you could ever want. Also gives it a sturdy feel. would quite happily chuck it down a flight of stairs, if i felt the urge, with complete piece of mind that it wouldnt break, although i havnt tested that theory....
