5 out of 5 stars Plug and play   July 4, 2008

After the numerous positive reviews and given the decent price, I finally selected this external hard drive. It is compact, light and powered using a USB. Extremely easy to use and convenient. Recommended as an affordable and easy-to-use means for transferring and storing data. Was recognised instantly and worked straight-away from my laptop.

The 500 gb is around the same price and, for me, it was a question of the 160 gb being powered by USB. 160 gb is fine for storing a lot of music, photoe etc.

I have resisted buying an external hard drive for a while. This looked like a bargain and had plenty of good reviews. After one weeks use it is fine. Just plug and in save all your backup files.

5 out of 5 stars Very Happy   June 11, 2008

After looking around at other harddrives and gig sizes, I chose this one based on its size, the fact that it is USB charged only, and because I also own a 250gig Western Digital 'mybook' and have never had a problem with it (this one was for a present). After reading the reviews on here, I decided to buy it -- also pretty cheap for a small sized external at 46.99. I have received it today and I am shocked at how small and light it is (the picture makes it seem quite alot bigger than it actually it)! Very happy and would recommend this.

1 out of 5 stars Not fit for purpose   June 10, 2008

Bought one to hang on my Mac laptop, wouldn't mount. Wouldn't mount on my iMac either. Called product support - in France, so nasty phone bill expected. They told me that it needed more amps from the USB socket than it was getting, and a lot of machines have this problem. They are now posting me a 'power booster' USB cable that will plug into both USB sockets in the hope of getting enough power to spin the drive. However I can't run my printer at the same time.

Clearly there is a design problem if they are marketing a 'plug and play' portable hard drive that in fact needs more power to work it than a lot of laptops provide, so they have to send out special power cables, that take up two USB slots instead of one. Not good enough, guys. No wonder it's cheap - but it shouldn't be on the market taking sales from drives that actually work as promised.

5 out of 5 stars Storage made easy   June 4, 2008

This is an excellent device for laptop owners. Might not be so good for PC owners as the lead is very short and according to other reviews doesn't work so well with a longer lead. The device is small and lightweight and easily fits in a laptop bag. Plus the fact that it is USB powered makes it well worth the purchase.
