Promising drive but once the power supply fails, you're on your own October 10, 2008 Joel (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Four months after buying this drive, its power supply failed. This is apparently quite a common problem with this make of drive - just Google Seagate power supply fail. No help from Seagate. No way to replace the power supply without buying *another* hard drive! I'm not buying anything else from Seagate, and I urge you not to as well: their aftercare sucks.
Very Good...but... October 7, 2008 Lee Chan (Tokyo) Works fine, no real complaints to be honest. Note though: while this will work perfectly for data storage, it was quite slow when it came down to streaming video of it. I need to copy and paste the file back onto my computer to stream it without the video slowing down every so often. Checked with my other computers as well and it's the same problem. Shame really, it's otherwise great.

Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB External Hard Drive EU & UK 3,5" 7200RPM 8MB USB2.0 I've been using this hard drive for a couple of months now. It was really easy to set up and install, and only took about 10 minutes before I was backing up my desktop & laptop PCs. I was quite happy with the transfer speed given it was through a USB2 connection. It looks good, with a warm glow coming off it when powered up. Powers down after a period of inactivity, but responds quickly when it's required again. No on/off switch, but I dont find that an issue. Good size, not to high or wide, and fits in to one side of my desktop monitor without looking out of place. Very well priced on Amazon, and it's worth the investment given the protection it provides when disaster strikes on your main PC. I've read some of the reviews, which did not rate this product very favourably, which surprised me. Over many years of using computers, I have always used Seagate or Maxtor hard drives without any major problems. I dont have any reason to think this external hard drive will be any different
Good kit got better. September 16, 2008 Mr. K. Kilpatrick 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just bought this and am well pleased. What's been changed? The power supply has been changed so that now you slide on whichever adaptor you require(see customer photos). You get a more robust arangement that's no wider than a normal plug. Will leave a reliability edit in the future.
