Product Description RangeMax NEXT extends the possibilities of your wireless home network by providing a Steady-Stream of up to 270Mbps, and is compliant with draft 802.11n. This next generation wireless standard utilizes advanced MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology, which delivers incredible speed and range, and for the first time provides wireless interoperability at the highest speeds with other products with Intensi-fi. A RangeMax NEXT wireless network creates and maintains stable connections and enough bandwidth to surf the Internet, download MP3s, make Internet phone calls, share files, play network games, and stream high-definition videos, simultaneously at any distance or location in the home or small office. Because RangeMax NEXT is compatible with all legacy b and g wireless products, you are sure to be connected. Preset internal antennas and draft 11n-True-Test, high-performance testing and tuning, provide maximum performance and high-quality streaming every time. NETGEARs Smart WizardTM provides easy setup including configuration of WEP, WPA-PSK or WPA-2 PSK WiFi security. Steady-Stream technology ensures you have enough streaming bandwidth to support all of your applications, all over your home, all at once.

Reliable - every now and then ..... November 12, 2008 D. M. Dewhurst (Leeds, West Yorkshire) I've had this product for over a year and have had sporadic levels of reliability. As the senior tech at Apple advised me yesterday, the 'N' standard used in this product still isn't approved, and is unlikely to be signed off before next year or even 2010. Had it not been for the fact that I'd received the same feedback from Talk Talk I probably would have taken this inf with a pinch of salt but it does make me wonder why Netgear sells product which don't (apparently) belong to a common standard. Incidentally, I have also experienced the same issues with a PC and the matching card. Netgear have some of the best Customer Service I've come across, it's just a shame their products don't match similar quality standards. What a shame that I've had to spend hours on the phone hearing about about wireless standards when all I wanted was a modem router that I could plug and play.
Worst Router Ever November 5, 2008 G. D. P. Cawsey (England) Always used and recommended Netgear routers. I have now had three of these 834N routers and each and everyone of them, the ethernet ports stop working until you reboot the router. Wireless is fine. Oh, and Netgear support reckons its coz my wired pc is using a firewall. So I explained my Xbox 360 doesnt have a firewall and that stops talking to the router too. I stated it doesnt get an ip address. They then told me I need to manually assign an IP address oh and put a firewall on the xbox. What a load of old rubbish! Never ever buy Netgear again. CHECK YOUR VPI AND VCI SETTINGS October 25, 2008 Mr. R. A. Price (NORTH WALES) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
THIS ROUTER ARRIVED TODAY AND I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT COULDN'T GET IT WORKING. AFTER TWO LONG CALLS TO THE HELP DESK IN INDIA IT STILL WOULDN'T WORK. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS A COMPUTER WIZZARD. HE EXHAUSTED HIS SKILLS TO NO AVAIL. HE FINALLY ASKED ME TO CALL BT AGAIN TO SEE IF THIS ROUTER WOULD ACTUALLY WORK WITH MY BT BROADBAND. I SPOKE TO A GUY WHO SAID IT WOULD AND AFTER TELLING HIM MY PROBLEMS (7 HOURS OF SOLID TRYING TO GET IT TO WORK) HE TOLD ME TO CHECK A FEW THINGS. ONE OF THESE WAS THE SETTINGS FOR VPI AND VCI. THEY WERE SET TO THE WRONG ONES (I THINK 2 AND 36). ONCE I SET THEM TO 0 AND 38 IT WORKED. THE DEFAULT SETTINGS ARE OBVIOUSLY WRONG FOR EITHER THIS COUNTRY OR FOR MY BT BROADBAND CONNECTION. IF THE ROUTER HAS TO BE RESET FOR ANY REASON THEN IT WILL ALSO REVERT THESE SETTINGS TO THE WRONG ONES. ON THE PLUS SIDE, I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE WHEN I MOVED MY OFFICE UPSTAIRS THE OLD BT VOYAGER ROUTER WOULD NOT WIRELESSLY REACH MY DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM FOR HER LAPTOP. THE NEW NETGEAR DG834N WORKS WITH HER LAPTOP SO MY CONNECTION PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED WITH THIS NEW ROUTER. SURELY THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS SO BASIC THAT IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM THAT TOOK ME ALL DAY TO RESOLVE!!
Brilliant Router, just bough it a couple of days ago October 23, 2008 Glenn Barnes I love It! I have it on the highest mode, which means you get 3x the bandwidth of other routers, and it is more secure, it uses WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK. It got a brilliant range, 80% downstairs, through 3 walls, one floor! Really easy to set-up, good settings, and updates. WORKS WITH THE PS3! It does work for me, I got it mainly for this, and it does work, without any problems. It comes with an adapter, and the packaging is French, but the cd is English. It came with a adapter, separate, in the box, not the router box. BUY IT!
A good router, with poor compatability October 18, 2008 John Nunn (Coventry, U.K.) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Not a bad router, the firewall capabilities are superb and very easy to configure. My main gripe is with the wireless, the backwards compatability is fairly shakey I could connect my latest Dell laptop without a problem, but when trying to connect my not so old HP or any of my older Toshiba laptops there were many problems. I could foresee some issues with connecting these devices but not the compleate failure to establish a working connection after several weeks of trying. After 4 months of having to use a wired connection I finally gave up and bought a Linksys (LINKSYS WIRELESS-N (DRAFT) ADSL2+ PSTN MODEM/ROUTER SWITCH 4X10/100) router, which worked straight out of the box with no problems.
