A good solution for pigment ink printing. April 28, 2004 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Most amateur digital photographers make their inkjet prints on glossy orsemi-glossy paper, which is quite often the only kind available in retailstores. Glossy paper gives a good immediate result with dye-based ink butpigment-based inks tend not to adhere to it, or not to dry properly. Dye-based inks, however, fade quite quickly. The longest-lived inkdyes only last about 25 years, and need to be protected from light toachieve even this. Pigment-based ink lasts upwards of 50 years, so wherelongevity is a concern - with family photographs for instance - it isadvisable to print with pigment ink. This where Epson Heavyweight Matte paper comes into its own. It givesa very pleasing result with pigment ink, and the colours are fast andswaterproof because they combine chemically with the paper coating. It isalso a good white colour and, per sheet, costs only about half the priceof comparable-weight glossy paper. The reason I am giving Heavyweight Matte only 4 stars in this reviewis that pigment-ink prints made on Epson Archival Matte paper, availablesimilarly in packs of 50 A4 sheets and at much the same price, have provedeven longer-lasting when tested by Henry Wilhelm Laboratories (U.S.A) whoare the experts in this field. I am keeping my 5-star rating for Archival Matte! But HeavyweightMatte is an excellent product - and it can be used with dye inks, too, ifa matte finish is preferred to glossy .
